Review: Lip Savvy Lip Gloss

Lip Savvy in Halo
If you like the lip plumping lip glosses that are available out there right now, like Lip Venom, you will love Lip Savvy. It is a lip plumping gloss available in 12 matte creamy colors and 10 shimmery colors. The color I received is Halo, a shimmery beige.

Lip Savvy in Halo

Fun Packaging
Lip Savvy comes in a "click" pen form package, which I like because I can use as little or as much as I want. It takes just a few clicks to get it started and then you have a nice, slightly sticky gloss. I like sticky glosses because they last longer on your lips. Halo is a nice color, not too overpowering on the lips. When I put it on my lips I was expecting a tingle or feeling that you normally get from plumping lipglosses but I was pleasantly surprised that I did not get that. It did plump my lips right away though and I was pleased with the results.

Color Chart
Lip Savvy is available for $18.00 on www.belipsavvy.com. The lipgloss itself offers protection from three types of known free radicals,  has collagen boosting properties, is moisturizing, minimizes fine lines and it plumps lips. How awesome is that? Also, Lip Savvy comes in the cutest packaging. Animal prints that set it apart from any other gloss I have ever seen.

Would I buy it? Yes. I am actually interested in some of the other shimmery colors like OMG and Exotic Topic. I think I will have to head over to www.belipsavvy.com in the very near future!

L'Oreal Collaborates with Project Runway for Its Fall Color Story.

It seems like it has been years since L'Oreal has put out anything really good in terms of a color story. I have always been a huge fan of L'Oreal as a drug store line. They had good quality and the price point was great. You should see the box of Colour Riche lipsticks I own, some of which are 10 years old and are STILL not rancid! This fall L'Oreal collaborated with Project Runway to come out with a huge color story all based around a bird theme. The last time they did a bird theme was about 13 years ago at holiday time with bright loose pigments, eyeliners and nail polish. I wish they had done that this time around too! I didn't buy everything in the collections and I wasn't able to take pictures of everything but I have some good impressions.

Cockatoo Quad and Blush

The first story is about a Cockatoo. They eye quad is called Charming Cockatoo's Gaze. It has a matte pink/peach, shimmery pinky-peach, shimmery blue gray and a matte charcoal. The blush that goes with it is a lovely shimmery peach. I also purchased the lipstick, which is a dark matte chocolate. They had nail colors and an eyeliner that went with each color story but I didn't purchase any of those from any of the stories.
Raven Quad and Blush

The next color story is about a Raven. The eye quad is called Sultry Raven's Gaze. It has a beautiful shimmery silver, slightly shimmery charcoal, a medium purple and a shimmery black. The blush that goes with it is a shimmery pink. Also, the lipstick is a medium pink nude tone.

Owl Quad and Blush
Finally, the other bird they used is an Owl. The last quad is called Watchful Owl's Gaze. It has three varying shades of shimmery gold and a shimmery khaki tone. The blush that goes with this story is a deep shimmery peach tone. I didn't purchase the lipstick that goes with this, only because they didn't have any left!

Charming Cockatoo's Pout

Raven's Sultry Pout
Revlon's Night Sky

For today's look I used the Cockatoo's Gaze quad. I used the shimmery blue in the crease. Then I took the matte charcoal and placed it along the outside of my lid and along the lower lash line. I used the matte pink on the lid and the shimmery peach under the brow. The eye looked kind of blah, so I decided to use a shimmery black shadow from Revlon that I have been wanting to use. It is called Night Sky and is their new Diamond Lust formula. I added it where I had put the matte black charcoal and it looked gorgeous there. I then added the silver from the Raven's Gaze quad under the brow. That made it look even better. So I put the shimmery peach from the Cockatoo quad on the lid now. I used Maybelline's Falsies Volume Express mascara in Black. For blush I used the Sultry Raven's Blush and the Sultry Raven's Pout lipstick. I think the look turned out very nice. I did notice a lot of fallout from the lighter shimmery shadows, I had to clean that up.

I am happy with the L'Oreal items. There aren't any surprises. I didn't really expect any. I am glad the price points aren't rising too much. I am glad that they decided to put out color stories again. I get tired of the same old thing. We all like to see new and different stuff every month or two. I bought these items at Rite-Aid, so I am assuming most of the other stores will have them soon. And they usually run their Buy one Get one 50% off discounts every other week. Hope you like my look!

I went to Ulta this afternoon and saw that there was another color story associated with this whole shebang! Yippee!!!! :) And it has gorgeous bright colors. The eye quad is called Audacious Amazon's Gaze. The four colors in it are: bright lime green, bright cantaloupe, dark shimmery peachy-orange and bright shimmery purple. The blush, Audacious Amazon's Blush, is a mid-tone bronzy peach. I didn't purchase the lipstick. It was too fuschia for my taste. I did get a nail color that is a gorgeous shimmery golden shower, called Amazon's Flash. All L'Oreal is 40% right now!!!!!!!!

Two looks with the New MAC Fall Colour Collections

I took one look at the new MAC Fall collections and went "What?" I know they like to get a little bit out there. Maybe this time they were trying to emulate Illamsqua some. I don't know. In one collection the model was a clown. Yes, I am serious. However, I did find some really nice items to buy from these three collections. I am not going to go in depth into all of the collections, you are able to find that already on the net. I will go into making some of these products into "real" looks.

In the first look I used the gorgeous Angel Flame eye quad. Angel Flame has some cute colors in it, Chamomile (a light yellow, repromote), Angel Flame (shimmery coral), Feather Pink (shimmery medium bright pink) and Gravel (charcoal gray). I liked all the colors except gravel. I found it did not go on very well, was chalky and tugged at my skin. I also bought Ash Violet Fluidline (shimmery purple with flecks of gold). On my lips I am wearing Fusion Pink Amplified lipstick (a gorgeous bright pink with a hint of blue to it). In this picture I wore MAC Stunner blush from MAC Me Over, the best blush to come out from MAC in AGES! The way I used it is Gravel in the crease and on the outside of the lid. On the lid I used Angel Flame and Chamomile under the Brow. I used Feather Pink under the eye.

In the second look I used the Parlor Smoke quad with some of the pigments. The quad is really dark so I used just the color Parlor Smoke (mid tone shimmery gray in the crease and I used Blue Storm pigment in the outer edge of the eye on the lid and under the eye. Then I used Violet pigment on the lid. I blended the Parlor Smoke up under the brow. Liquid liner is Sephora's Fancy Blue #13 and my usual MAC Opulash Optimum Mascara. Blush was Clinique's Peony Fresh Bloom and Lipstick is Maybelline's Beige Bombshell. I am very happy with the new pigment, Blue Storm. It is deep and rich. Lots of shimmer.
2nd look

Angel Flame Quad
The other pigments, Emerald Dusk and Starless Night, are also very nice. Emerald dusk has a lot of shimmer and is also very deep. Starless Night is dark and has shimmer throughout the pigment but is not just a shimmery pigment in and of itself. Overall though I was happy to have them. I still don't like the new packaging. :(

Review: Urban Decay Mariposa Holiday Palette

As you know I am a HUGE Urban Decay fan. So when I saw that they were putting out another palette for the holiday season, I jumped at the chance to order it as soon as it became available on the Sephora website. The Mariposa (butterfly in Spanish) palette is a Sephora exclusive and runs $39.00. It has 10 shadows in it and it comes in a small metal tin that is quite difficult for me to open. That may just be because I have some nerve issues. I am not sure how many of them are new or not, but I have not seen a few of them before (that may just be because I missed them in previous palettes).

The shadows are: Rockstar (shimmery dark purple), Gunmetal (shimmery dark silver), Skimp (light shimmery peachy nude), Infamous (shimmery fuchsia), Wreckage (shimmery taupe bronze), Haight (shimmery teal), Money (light shimmery bluish silver), Mushroom (medium shimmery taupe silver), Spotlight (shimmery golden taupe) and Limelight (medium gold). It also comes with a small synthetic brush. I immediately took it out to use for lipstick. The brush was small and seemed to usable for that!

For this look I am wearing Infamous in my crease. Then I took Rockstar and used it to defined the crease more. On the outer edge of the lid I used Rockstar and then under the eye to define it. I used Spotlight on the lid and Skimp under the brow. I used Sephora's liquid liner in #14 Fancy Violet. Mascara was MAC's Opulash Optimum in Black. My blush is Clinique's Shimmering Tones Powder in Black Honey. On the lips I used Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Hush over Sephora's Nano lip liner in #07 Cheery Chestnut.

I am not sure about the other colors but I found Infamous to be rather chalky when I applied it. I was somewhat disappointed because Urban Decay eyeshadows are known for their pigmentation and smoothness when applied. It did pull some too. I used the shadows over Urban Decay Primer Potion, as usual. When I did the swatches, the other shadows seem to go on well so I am hoping it was just the one.

Overall this palette seems to have a lot of the same shadows that we have seen. I wish that there had been some new shadows like they usually do in all the palettes that they come out with, especially for the $39.00 price tag! I also wish that Infamous wasn't so chalky, since I love any shadow from the purple family, as you see it brings out the green in my eyes and makes them pop. Any comments? Questions?

A Butterfly Eye with Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, where have you been all my life? I just adore your loose color concentrates! The junkie in me just cannot get enough! :)

Recently I acquired the majority of them and I am in color heaven! For Fall/Winter the color collection is called Pretty Boy. There are three new loose color concentrates: Cruising (brassy gold shimmer), Jubilee (icy blue with intense yellow/green shimmer) and Poison (primordial forest green shimmer) I acquired the last two of the new fall ones. Loose Color Concentrates are usually $12.00 but right now they are 25% off, making them $9.00!!!! They can be purchased at www.occmakeup.com. The rest of the Fall/Winter collection can be found on the website. There is a gorgeous glitter and some of the Lip Tars. I purchased a couple of those and just started to get into trying them. I will have to discuss those later.

For the look here I am wearing Jubilee, Poison, Clove and Oberon. Clove is described as a pale champagne shimmer and Oberon is a ethereal pink white frost. I know that when Jubilee goes on my eyes I cannot stop looking at them. I feel like a butterfly! Also for this look I lined with Urban Decay's 24/7 liner in Junkie and used MAC's Opulash Optimum Black mascara. On my cheeks I used Smashbox Blush Rush in Pose and MAC Fleshpot on my lips. I feel that the strong eyes are complemented by a nude lip. The Oberon swatch was hard to get, it actually goes on the eye better than this. Jubilee goes on nicely dry and if you wet it, it goes on even better! Poison is so dark and shimmery that it looks good dry or wet.

On the look here, I have used Clove in the crease, then Poison to define the crease. I have heavy lidded eyes so I always use a darker color to "define" the crease. Then I took Poison and used it on the outer edge of the lid and under the eye. Jubilee then went all over the lid. Finally, Oberon just under the brow. The "ethereal" nature of Jubilee and Oberon make the eye look similar to a butterfly's wing. I hope you like this look. Comments are welcome!

Urban Decay Holiday Sets and Lipglosses That Are Worth Every Penny!

You know I am a humongous makeup fanatic and my first love will always be MAC but I am also a huge Urban Decay fan. Lately UD is just hitting the mark on everything with their Book of Shadows sets, Anniversary set and now eyeliner sets. I decided to get the holiday eyeliner sets and new Stardust lipglosses to see what I had been missing since I did not get my paws on the huge set last year. I am so glad I did!

There are two eyeliner regular 24/7 eyeliner travel sets for this holiday season, one called Naked and the other Electric. Each are $32.00 and are available at www.urbandecay.com and Sephora. The Naked set has five colors: Zero (charcoal black), Demolition (dark matte brown), Bourbon (copper), Underground (golden brown) and Stray Dog( medium brown). The Electric Set also has five pencils: Perversion (dark black), Ransom (shimmery purple), Woodstock (shimmery fuchsia), Radium (shimmery bright blue) and Junkie (shimmery green gold). The best thing about these pencils is how creamy they are. They glide on like butter! And they stay on all day. I have never worn eyeliner like this before. Nobody else does eyeliner like this. The regular pencils are $18.00 each so these sets are a steal!!!!!!

Urban Decay also came out with a Jumbo Eyeliner set that consists of five pencils, retails for $34.00 and is also available at www.urbandecay.com and Sephora. The colors in this set are great for making looks: Delinquent (purple), Rehab (golden brown), Juju (taupe brown), Sin (nude peach) and Clash (turquoise).

Last, but not least, they now have some gorgeous lipglosses that are reminiscent of MAC lipgelee in shimmer but last longer. Urban Decay Stardust lipgloss, $19.00, is what you want on your lips when you are going out at night and don't want to have to deal with touch ups. It is much stickier and tackier in feel than MAC lipgelee but for that it will wear much longer too. There are three colors: Space Cowboy (shimmery nude), Andromeda (shimmery pink-peach) and Glitter Rock (shimmery fuchsia). I put this gloss on the morning and there are dregs of it still at night. That is quite shocking for any gloss. Currently these are only available at www.urbandecay.com.

Coming Soon: UD, MAC and more...

I have been wiped out lately with seasonal vertigo/migraines and dealing with my regular disability so I have not had time to do any blogging. And it is driving me up a wall! Tomorrow I plan on discussing the Urban Decay holiday offerings and soon I will have for you the fall MAC items. So don't think the junkie went off her drug of choice, I have had plenty of action. :)

Look With Illamasqua's Theater of the Namless

One of my favorite brands of makeup is Illamasqua, based in the UK. When I discovered them a few months ago I knew immediately that this brand was something special. The brand has a superior quality that one rarely finds these days. They are somewhat more expensive, but it is definitely worth every penny. In the US they are available only at some Sephora stores their website. Or you can order directly their website, Illamasqua. Some of their products are not available in the US because of ingredient restrictions. :(

The collections that they come out with each season are so artistic, I have not seen anything like this since the old Christian Dior artist Tien in the late '80's! Last spring/summer was Toxic Nature, a bright look at nature gone awry in our modern time. This season the collection is called Theater of the Nameless, based on clubs in Berlin in the 1920's. It is very "erotic" in nature and when you look at it, your eyes are immediately drawn to how the makeup is used. Illamasqua brings you in to the story with makeup. I urge you to go their website and look around at the various collections they put out but especially this one and last season's.

My look for the eyes is reminiscent of a sunset. I used Depravity Cream Pigment (magenta) on the lid, Androgen Cream Pigment (coral) above the lid in the crease. Then Bronx (shimmery copper) in the crease and Tango (dark shimmery bronze) just below to define the crease and again in the outer lid. For the lower lid I used Preen (dark periwinkle) and blended just a little onto the upper outer lid. I used Make Up For Ever's Waterproof liquid liner in #8 on the upper lid, winging it out just a little. For mascara, MAC's Opulash Optimum in Black.

I wanted a flushed cheeks look so I used Morale (shimmery dark rose) blush. I like lips that are not too dark in this case, so Illamasqua's Climax (pink coral) was a good choice here. The only thing that I don't like about their lipsticks is how drying they are on the lips. The pigments are great and they have great lasting power but boy, they sure do dry out the lips! I think they need to change the formula on this.

I have some more Illamasqua products I want to show you tomorrow, so look forward to another blog post. I also have some Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics pigments to show you for another day as well as Urban Decay holiday items! Busy times are ahead.

A Fall Look With Smashbox and Sue Devitt

Since the weather was a tad cooler I decided it was time to pull out some fall colors!
I hope you like the look, I think it is one that is easily transferable between seasons!

For this look I used a combination of Sue Devitt and Smashbox. It turned out to be a beautiful look! The eyeshadows were all Sue Devitt. In the crease I used Flinders Ranges, a medium shimmery lavender. Then I used Ancestral Journey, a gorgeous matte reddish brown to define the crease and in the outer corner of the lid. I also lined the lower lid with it. On the lid and under the brow I used Cap Ferrat, a shimmery silver. I must say that these shadows really accented the green in my eyes and made them pop! I used Smashbox's cream liner in Sepia on the upper lid to line my eyes. This is the first time I worked with their cream liner and it is much thicker than other cream liners. It also comes with a different brush than I am used to working with. The brush they recommend is a flat brush. I prefer an angled or pointed brush. Finally I used Sue Devitt's Microquatic Luxury Lash Black Widow Black Lavender Mascara on my lashes and it added to the effect that helped bring out the green in my eyes.

On my cheeks I used the prettiest blush! Smashbox's Blush Rush in Pose is a matte reddish-pink that goes on very lightly, so you don't feel like you are putting on a clown face! I actually put on a little bit more then toned it down with my powder brush. On my lips today is a light reddish color called Deia from Sue Devitt.

The Smashbox items I am wearing are from the new Girls On Film collection for fall. They are available at www.smashbox.com, Ulta and Sephora. The blush is $24.00 and the cream liner is $28.00 and is a travel set. All of the Sue Devitt items are available at www.suedevittbeauty.com. The eyeshadows are $18.00, the mascara is $22.00 and the lipstick is $20.00.

The items used were received for promotional consideration. I tell you this only because I want to be honest. I will say this: I loved every single thing I used and would honestly purchase them. Why do I call myself THE Makeup Junkie? I am not doing this just so I can get "free stuff". I love makeup and I love beauty. I am an esthetician. For me it was a calling. I left anthropology to do this instead. Yes, I am THAT nuts!!!!!
