At certain times of the year MAC always puts out a collection that is tied to a fashion designer. This year they went with Gareth Pugh. He is known for being avant garde and artistic in style, similar to Alexander McQueen. The collection MAC went for is definitely Pugh’s style. I am only going to review the items I purchased.

I bought the Elude beauty powder, Restrict Cremesheen lipstick, Vacant lipglass, Deceit pigment and Guise pigment. There are a number of other items that came out but some were not on the site when I purchased and some were not colors that I thought would look good on me.

The Elude Beauty Powder ($60) is disappointing. I thought it would have more color to it. Basically it is an expensive powder. Very little color, a light cream. I am actually going to send it back and I never send products back. That is how upset I am about the product. Next we have the two pigments. These I love. There is Deceit ($32), a rich dark purple that is highly pigmented. It goes on very smoothly. Guise ($32) is a very shimmery silver also goes on very smoothly. It is more like the crushed metal pigments that MAC puts out. The lipstick, Restrict ($22) is a medium nude tone cremesheen formula and I haven’t worn it yet but when swatched it produced a nice color on my wrist. Finally, the Vacant lipglass ($22), which is a beautiful shimmery lilac color, goes on very nice and has the normal amount of payoff the you expect from a lipglass.

My look starts with Elude Beauty Powder over my foundation. I used Deceit pigment in the crease of the eye, in the outer corner and underneath the eye. Guise was used on the lid and under the brow. I used MAC’s False Lashes mascara in Black and for lining I used Sephora’s #13 Glitter Violet on the upper lid. For blush I used Pleasure Flush Mineralize Powder. On the lips I used a medium lip liner, MAC’s Pro Longwear Lip Liner in Morning Coffee all over the lips and then put Vacant gloss all over the top of the liner.

I think the look comes out to be a very nice one, with the eyes very smoky and really making my eyes look green. However, the items are WAY too expensive and you are paying for the designer name. I did because I love MAC and I wanted the colors. I really wanted the pigments. I think these should be up on www.maccosmetics.com next week. As I mentioned before, there are some other items, like Metal-X eyeshadows, that were not available for purchase. I am not sure I would get those though because last time they came out with them they ended up creasing a lot. Overall I am happy with everything except the Beauty Powder.

I would love some ideas on what you would like to see in future blog posts. I am a licensed esthetician and qualified to also discuss various problems with skincare. I can describe how to put on makeup, etc. I don’t want the blog to just be about the newest and latest items that come out on the market. I specialize in acne care.

Please email me at: mariepapachatzis@gmail.com with your ideas. I will try to get to them as soon as possible.

NEED A HOLIDAY GIFT? TRY THE LORAC BEJEWELED GIFT SET. GUARANTEED TO MAKE SOMEONE HAPPY!

100_9015100_9016100_9017100_9018100_9019100_9020100_9021100_9022

My two favorite things rolled into one, a great value and a large palette. Can you imagine how happy I am right now just having this in my possession? Just for the eyeshadows alone I am jumping up and down (as much as I can) with joy. This palette retails for $56 at www.sephora.com.

The top opens to reveal a bronzer and two lipglosses: peach and rose. Then there are two drawers, each containing an eyeshadow palette with an eyeliner. The Day shadow palette has sixteen shadows and one blush and a brown eyeliner. The Night shadow palette also has sixteen shadows, a blush and a black eyeliner. I have gone through all of these years and have never used Lorac products. Big mistake. These shadows are amazing in quality. Very soft and buttery, with good payoff. The blush is highly pigmented too. The eyeliner is also creamy in texture. I used the peach gloss and thought it was very pigmented with a lot of staying power. I can say that this is a worthy gift OR something you might want to keep for yourself…hint, hint. Smile

Day Look with the Day Palette of Shadows:

100_9106100_9124100_9109100_9111100_9116100_9126

On this swatch photo I took swatches of the first two rows of shadows, the blush, the peach lipgloss and the brown liner. For the look I used a shimmery mauve shadow in the crease, a shimmery copper shadow on the outer edge of the lid and under the eye. On the lid I used a very shimmery champagne color and then a light shimmery beige under the brow. I lined with Urban Decay’s liquid liner in Demolition, which is almost undetectable. For mascara I used L’Oreal’s Voluminous False Lashes in Black. On my cheeks I used the peachy blush from the palette. The Peach gloss was used on my lips. I must say, if all LORAC’s glosses are like this I will be using them in the future! The same goes with the shadows, very nice payoff and pigmentation.

I highly recommend this as a gift to any woman in your life, she will love it! Thanks, The Makeup Junkie…

REVIEW: TARINA TARANTINO’S JEWEL EYESHADOW PALETTE

100_8964100_8966

I had always loved the look of the Tarina Tarantino eyeshadows. I never tried any, not for any reason I could remember. Recently she revamped the line and put out new eyeshadow palettes. I got my hands on Fantastical, which is good because it really makes the green in my eyes just pop! There are five shadows in each palette and they are greatly co-ordinated. The colors are as follows (from top, going right to left): light shimmery mauve, medium shimmery beige gold, shimmery eggplant, bright shimmery fuchsia, light shimmery champagne. These palettes are available at www.sephora.com and www.tarinatarantino.com for $32.00.

100_8990100_8982100_8980100_8986100_8979100_8970

For this look I used the light shimmery mauve color in the crease. Then I took the shimmery eggplant color and drew it along the deepest part of the crease, on the outermost part of the lid and under the eye. The bright shimmery fuchsia color went all over the lid and under the eye to really brighten it up and make the eye pop. Finally I took the shimmery beige gold and used it under the brow. To line my eyes I used Sephora’s liquid liner in 14 Fancy Violet. For mascara, Maybelline’s Great Lash Lots of Lashes. On my cheeks I used Clinique’s Fresh Bloom Allover Color in Peony. My lips were brightened by Inglot’s 117 Lipstick, a light shimmery coral. I love Inglot’s lipsticks. They are very pigmented and have amazing payoff! They are available at www.inglotcosmetics.com and are $12.00.

I am very happy with these shadows, they are soft and creamy. The payoff is amazing. For $32.00 there are five shadows which is comparable to a Dior quint so this is much more affordable and I would say that the quality is just as good. I would highly recommend these if you are in the mood for something new.

KAT VON D’S POETICA PALETTE: MAKE YOUR EYES POP!

100_8890100_8891100_8915
Earlier this year I purchased a Kat Von D palette from Sephora because it was on sale. I was surprisingly happy with the quality of the shadows. I resigned myself to purchase another one if the colors called out to me and the price was right. This week I was lucky enough to have the VIB discount so while taking my kids to the mall I happened to be browsing in Sephora and came upon this lovely gem. It has three purple shades and one lovely bright orange shade. I said this baby is mine! This palette is available at www.sephora.com for $35.00.

The palette has eight shadows and one liner in it. The shadows (from left to right) are: Forgiveness (shimmery cream), Sand Timer (shimmery nude beige), Chandler (bright coppery orange), Tijuana (shimmery black), Wonderland (shimmery dark purple), Shiba (shimmery medium lavender), Babe (shimmery hypnotic purple) and You Alone (shimmery off white). The liner is a matte black waterproof formula. I will be honest. I practically purchased it for Babe. That color is so gorgeous! I took the swatches wet to get good pictures of them.

100_8905For the look I did today I used Shiba in the crease, then took Tijuana and used it in the outer edge of the lid and also to define the crease some because my eyes are hooded. I also used it under my eye. I used Babe all over my lid which is why it looks bright purple. Then I used You Alone under the brow. I used the black pencil along the upper lash line and for mascara, Maybelline’s Lots of Lashes Great Lash in Black. For the rest of the look I used MAC items, Pet Me blush and Innocence Beware lipstick. I think the eyes came out very nice, Babe is really the star of the show, so to say. I am quite happy with this one.
