PURPLE LOOK FOR SPRING

100_0355100_0366100_0351100_0360100_0353100_0348100_0345100_0372
Even though our winter has not been bad, I am wishing for spring. Evident in that is my choice of makeup colors. I kept it light and fresh today, deciding not to line my lower lid. On my eyes I used Wet n’ Wild’s Color Icon shadow in Sellout (bright shimmery purple) in the crease. On the lid I used the darker half of Maybelline’s Eye Studio baked shadow in Lilac Lolita (purple with pink veins) and under the brow I used the lighter portion, which is a shimmery lavender. For lining the upper lid, I used MAC’s Pearlglide Intense Liner in Desinger Purple. The mascara I tried out is Urban Decay’s Supercurl Curling Mascara in Black. It does curl the lashes some. I don’t use a curler and I found that my lashes lifted up some.
On my cheeks I used one of my favorite blushes, Illamasqua’s Ambition (medium pink with gold shimmer). I lined my lips with Cover Girl’s Sublime lip liner and then used Illamasqua’s Intense Lip Gloss in Artifice (nude peach). The look is fun and definitely good for spring. The purple really brings out the green in my eyes and looks fun with my red hair too!

philosophy the microdelivery triple-acid brightening peel: Review

100_0289100_0290
As an esthetician I am a huge fan of peels. I am also a huge fan of philosophy products. Combine the two together and you are bound to get a product that I am crazy about. I have been using their microdelivery peel for a while now and have found that it has worked wonders on my 40 year old skin. So you can imagine I was quite excited when I saw this new peel. The only drawback was the price. It is $68.00 for 12 pads. That is a little steep. I ordered it off of QVC and it came with  2 oz. bottle of the microdelivery exfoliating wash.It is also available at Sephora, Ulta, www.sephora.com, www.ulta.com and www.philosophy.com.
The triple-acid brightening peel contains mandelaic acid, phytic acid and azelaic acid to exfoliate and brighten the skin. The peel claims that after just two uses skin will be brighter and smoother. Mandelaic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid that comes from heating amygdalin (an extract of bitter almonds) with diluted hydrochloric acid. Phytic acid is an acid that comes from bran and seeds. Azelaic acid is an acid that comes from wheat, rye and barley and is used in skin conditioners.
The pad that comes in the peel kit is very large, about 2.5 inches in diameter. The directions say to swipe the pad over clean, dry skin in the evening. You can use the pad on the neck, chest and hands too. It does say that if skin is sensitive leave the peel on for 3-5 minutes and rinse off. Otherwise, leave it on all night. I left it on all night and then used my hope in a jar moisturizer,  which also has alpha-hydroxy acids in it. The next day my skin was a little rough, but there wasn’t any peeling. My skin is used to peels of all sorts, even the Jessner’s. The day after that though, my skin looked radiant. I mean it was brighter and more even toned with just one use. I want to go ahead and use another pad but I also would like to keep them to use one per week since they are so expensive.
Overall I am very happy with the results so far and I have only used one pad. Normally you can only get these kind of results with professional grade peels. Yes, the price is a huge drawback but if you are debating on this vs. a Dr. Brandt Alpha-Beta Peel, I would say go for this one.

MAKE UP FOR EVER SPRING LOOK

100_0043100_0042100_0069100_0055100_0045100_0054100_0053

This is a nice spring look using Make Up For Ever products. I saw the palette they had on Sephora recently and wanted to recreate the look without purchasing it but using similar products. Make Up For Ever is known around the makeup world for their quality products. All of their products perform to a high standard of quality, with great payoff and pigmentation. For this look I used the following products on my eyes: Khaki Brown 148 (antique gold shimmer), Matte Cinnamon 161, Iridescent Acid Green 171 and Diamond Powder 14 Baby Mauve (light mauve shimmer). On my cheeks I used Soft Pink 97 (matte pale pink) and I used Rouge Artist Intense lipstick in 18 (pearly beige). The shadows, cheek color and lipstick are all $19.00 and the Diamond Powder is $24.00. They are available at Sephora stores and www.sephora.com.

I applied the khaki brown in the crease, then used the matte cinnamon just below to deepen the crease. I always do this since I have heavily hooded eyes. I find that it helps to open them up and create the effect of a deep set eye. Then I used the matte cinnamon on the outer edge of the lid and under the eye. On the rest of the lid I used the acid green and under the brow I used the diamond powder to give it a glow. To line the upper lid I used Make Up For Ever Aqua Liner in 11 (diamond burgundy), $23.00. For mascara I used MAC False Lashes in Black. The rest of the look is very neutral, with pale pink cheeks and a light shimmery beige lip.

ANOTHER LOOK WITH MAC SPRING OFFERINGS

100_0228100_0250100_0243100_0247100_0244100_0251100_0236100_0071

I wanted to try another look with the MAC spring colors. Today I used the Shop & Drop eye shadow quad. It is a cool toned quad. The four colors are: Sugar Shack (matte pink), Hypnotizing (taupe frost), Power Boosted (veluxe pearl dark shimmery purple) and Shop & Drop (satin navy). My personal favorite is Power Boosted. I think it is a gorgeous color on and really makes the green in any person’s eyes pop! It retails for $38.00 at any MAC counter or www.maccosmetics.com.

I took Power Boosted and put it in the crease. I then swooshed some of Shop & Drop into the crease, blended Power Boosted over it and it made Shop & Drop more purple toned. I used Shop & Drop on the outer edge of the lid and under the eye, also carrying Power Boosted over the color. Hypnotizing was used on the remaining portion of the lid and I used Sugar Shack under the lid. Yesterday I used the new Cover Girl Lash Blast Luxe in Black Platiunum and I liked it a lot so I used it again. I decided to forgo the liquid liner today, since my eyes already looked pretty set for the day. If it were a night look I would use a dark purple liner to make the look pop even more.

On my cheeks I used the new face powder in Flower Fantasy. It is the warmer of the two released and I love how it gives my cheeks warmth and brightness. It is $28.00 retail. Today I decided to use the new Kissable Lipcolor in Woo Me, a nude pink tone. I love this new product!!!! It is supposed to be as easy as a gloss but as pigment rich as a lipstick. So far so good. I have worn it 3 hours now and it is holding strong. It does have a lot of pigment when applied and it goes on very creamy. In the picture here Woo Me is the middle one. These retail for $19.00. I think they might end up being either a permanent product or something MAC drags out now and again. I like them.

Well, that is my look for today. Please let me know if you have any comments or yes, even snarky remarks. I like to hear from people!

MAC SPRING OFFERINGS: GOODY, GOODY GUM DROP!!!!!!!

100_0071100_0072100_0073100_0074100_0075100_0076100_0077100_0078100_0079100_0080100_0081100_0082100_0084100_0086100_0087100_0088100_0089100_0092100_0090100_0091

For spring MAC has a plethora of offerings. As usual. They don’t disappoint on color or quality. I must say that this is the first time in a long time I am head over heels in love with all that I see. There is something here for everyone. An abundance of cool tones but when there is something for a warm toned gal, watch out! Below I am going to show you two looks, a sunset look and a shimmery, ethereal look. I am not going to go through and name everything in each picture. The collections are called: Shop MAC, Cook MAC and Vera. Personally I like the Vera collection. I love the Crushed Metallic Pigments and the cute Face Powders. I like the Call Me Bubbles eye quad too. And the Plushglass lipglosses.

100_0205100_0191100_0188100_0187100_0196100_0183

This is my sunset look with the Call Me Bubbles Quad, a lovely bright mix of pink, light copper, orange and white that made me feel like I was a koi. I used Full of Flavour, a matte pink, in the crease and then I took the Veluxe Pearl Brash and used it deeper in the crease and on the outer edge of the lid and under the eye. On the lid I used Fresh Daily, a frost and under the brow I used Call Me Bubbles, a Satin. I can wear something like this with my red hair but I can see it on warmed toned people only. I used Added Goodness Fluidline (shimmery brown) and False Lashes mascara in Black.

The cheeks boast Flower Fantasy Face Powder, those cute blushes that you don’t want to use because they are works of art! And then on the lips I used the Plushglass in Check this Out!, which is a gorgeous warm and shimmery coral.

100_0206100_0211100_0222100_0216100_0227

For this look, a cool toned look, I decided to use some of the Crushed Metallic Pigments. I used the blue teal combination Butterfly Party/Desert Cloud (light shimmery lavender and dark shimmery purple) and Rain Drop/Moss Garden (shimmery teal and shimmery ocean blue). I used Cover Girl’s Lash Blast Luxe in Black Platinum and Make Up For Ever Aqua Liner in #8 (iridescent shimmery purple).

On my cheeks I used the Sunday Afternoon Face Powder, again I almost didn’t want to use it since it looks like a work of art. I chose nude lips with Cremesheen Innocence Beware, a nude tone with just a hint of pink.

So there you go. Let me know your favorites. I want to hear your bombs too!
