REVIEW: TARTE EYE SHADOWS

100_0611100_0612100_0613
I had gone all these years without ever using a Tarte cosmetic product. Curiosity finally overcame me and I finally decided that I needed to try out the brand. I purchased two things, The Rising Star Limited Edition Palette and The Royal Collection Limited Edition Color Collection. This entry is about the latter. I am basing this review on the shadows from it. On two different days I tried looks from this palette and I must say I was very disappointed in the quality of the shadows. They are very creamy but they go on muddied, not true to color. They also do not have good pigmentation and payoff. I was surprised, as I have heard great things about their products. I was very happy with the Amazonian Clay foundation (http://iamthemakeupjunkie.blogspot.com/2012/03/review-tartes-amazonian-clay-12-hour.html)

This look shows four different shadows I used from the palette: a matte mauve, a shimmery dark purple, a shimmery creamy taupe and a matte cream. Trying to get swatches I had to swatch the shadows several times to get color on my inner arm. Even then the swatch still looks off.
Currently this palette is available at www.tartecosmetics.com at a sale price of $30.00. It contains 16 eyeshadows, a deluxe size primer, a lash primer, mascara and a mini gloss. I am wearing the mascara and gloss in these photos. Next time I will likely try their shadows that are not in palette form to get a true reading as to the payoff and pigmentation, that may be more helpful.

  1. Marie, I went to order this but I see it has lanolin in it and I'm allergic to lanolin. Would you be able to recommend another similar product?

  2. I would recommend Lorac eyeshadows instead. They have great pigment and payoff. The pricepoint is similar to Tarte too. Check the ingredients first, I am not sure if they have lanolin though.
