ILLAMASQUA’S HUMAN FUNDAMENTALISM: MAKING IT WORK IN REAL LIFE

100_1685

Illamasqua is a company known for putting out some beautiful makeup. Their products are of the highest quality, eyeshadows are well pigmented with great payoff and they have a huge color range. Each time a color story comes out I wait with baited breath to see how I will be able to work the magical colors into my routine. This Spring/Summer their Human Fundamentalism collection was by far the most extraordinarily bright I have seen in some time. If you go to www.illamasqua.com you will see how Alex Box (their director of artistry) dreamed up a futuristic land where color reigns supreme for everyone’s alter ego.

Look No.1 consists of Fledgling (bright matte green) in the crease. On the lid I used Pivot (bright acid green). Under the brow I used two shadows, Vapour (bright matte apricot, then I went over it with Sex (matte white) to tone it down some. Under the eye I lined with Liquid Metal in Surge (silver) from the Fundamental Palette. On my cheeks I used Tremble (bright matte apricot) and on my lips I used Flare (bright matte orange) over nude brown lip pencil (Cover Girl’s Sublime). The nude lip pencil toned down the orange lipstick a little. Overall I think the look works for me, as I am used to experimenting with colors. Tomorrow a new look!

CORAL LOOK FOR SPRING WITH INGLOT COSMETICS

100_1601100_1598100_1599

One of my favorite lines these days is Inglot Cosmetics. They are not easily available but they are one of the lines that has the highest quality products. I am quite in love with their Freedom system, whereby you buy by the pan and fill up. They have palettes that go up to 40 for their eyeshadows! I stick to the 20 palette for my shadows. Recently I decided to go for some of the lipstick palettes, since I also love their lipsticks a lot. The lip palettes do NOT have a lot of the pearl lipsticks available, but the color choices are unbelievable still. The magnets in the palettes are so good that once you get the colors in the pans they DON’T come out for anything and even the palettes are hard to get open. I have issues with my right hand and I have a hard time opening the palettes.

100_1602100_1628100_1620100_1614100_1605100_1621100_1623

This look is a peachy-coral look that is perfect for spring. It is a light look that would look good on neutral and warm toned people. The Inglot shadows have great pigmentation and payoff. They don’t have much fallout. For this look I took 609 DS in the crease (medium  golden brown with gold shimmer).  Then I took 12 AMC (very shimmery bronze) and used it on the outer edge of the lid, under the eye and also just under the crease to deepen it some. On the lid I used 407 Pearl (very shimmery peach) on the lid. Just under the brow I used 341 Matte (dark matte cream). I used Inglot liquid eyeliner in 24 (dark brown) on the upper lid. For mascara I used MAC’s False Lashes in Black. These colors really brought out the blue tones in my eye.

On the cheeks I used Physician’s Formula Bronze Booster in Light-Medium (light bronze) and then applied MAC’s Marine Life Highlight Powder on top to achieve a bright coral cheek. For the lips I used Cover Girl’s Sublime (medium brown) lip liner on the lips and then used Inglot’s Freedom System lipstick in 44 (medium creamy peach).

This look is very “in” for spring right now and for someone like me who has tones that look good with neutral tones or warm tones, it is a good look. I would recommend that those with cool tones go with a brighter pinky-coral look. I always have to try and do my eyes with a lot of shadow, since I have heavily lidded eyes. I would love to have some comments on this look.

PHILOSOPHY: THE GREAT MYSTERY

100_1597

I must have a vendetta against my dead skin cells. I am constantly finding ways in which to get rid of them. Peels and exfoliants are my weapons of choice. One day I was browsing the philosophy web site and I came upon the great mystery: one minute daily facial. It is a white cream that warms when applied to the skin and is left on for only one minute. After washing off, your skin is left very soft and velvety. I actually leave it on for a little bit longer, and there are no detrimental results. It comes in a 5 oz. tube for $25.00. Some of the ingredients in the great mystery are glycerin, water, sea salt, panthenol, propylene glycol, butylene glycol, tocopheryl acetate, plankton extract, algae extract and lavender oil. I really love how this product makes my skin feel soft and at least a couple of years younger! The exfoliants in this product are the sea salt, panthenol and propylene glycol. They work to help chemically get rid of dead skin cells.

I know that I often cover philosophy products but they do have a good number of products that do what they claim they will do, are priced right and have great ingredients. As an esthetician, I feel that a line like that deserves good reviews.

I’M IN THE MOOD FOR BRONZE

100_1474100_1475100_1476100_1478100_1486100_1484100_1485

Even though it’s raining I am in the mood to do a bronze look. Yesterday I did a bright look with some Maybelline colors (http://iamthemakeupjunkie.blogspot.com/2012/04/steamy-summer-look-with-maybelline.html). I usually look good with warm tones, so bronze would be a natural color to turn to for me.

On the eyes I am wearing Tarte’s Beauty & The Box In The Buff. I will admit that originally the cute little box of shadows came with color names but I threw them away, so I am just going to go with color descriptions. There are four shadows in the little box that looks similar to the Benefit blush boxes. If you read me often enough, you know how I do my eyes and can guess what comes next!

I used the shimmery mauve brown in the crease, it went on very light. I then used the dark shimmery brown in the crease to make it look deeper since I have hooded eyes. That color was then used on the outer edge of the crease and underneath the eye to define the eye. Then I took the shimmery golden bronze and placed it on the lid. The shimmery brown and shimmery gold both had good color pigmentation and payoff. The last color, a very light shimmery cream, was used under the brow. It completely disappeared and had no pigmentation. The shadows also had a lot of fallout. I give the shadow box and so-so rating. To line my eyes I used Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Waterproof Eyeliner in Golden Plum (a very beautiful raisin color). I found it went on okay but a huge chunk of it broke off as I was lining my eyes. That made me upset. For mascara I used Maybelline’s Great Lash Lots of Lashes in Black.

Something I was really excited about is the Stila Custom Color Blush in Self-Adjusting Bronze. Most bronzers are too dark for me, so I am always looking for a bronzer that will look good on me. I decided to try this one. It looks very dark in the pan but went on very light and did not darken or oxidize on my skin. On my lips I used Victoria’s Secret Color Lust Lip Lacquer in Simmer (pink-brown with pink shimmer). I usually don’t’ use Victoria’s Secret cosmetics but I had a coupon so I got this and an eye palette I am going to review. I find the lipgloss is very sticky, similar to MAC’s Lipglass. This one is a clickable gloss with a brush. I prefer a doe-foot applicator.

I would love any comments, especially if you have tried some of the Tarte products. I have just started using Tarte and I am not as happy with them as I am with other lines. Especially the eyeliners. Every time I use one of the eyeliners, a huge chunk breaks off and I lose a large portion of the liner. That is a huge waste of money!

STEAMY SUMMER LOOK WITH MAYBELLINE BRIGHTS

100_1427100_1428100_1430100_1431

For summer Maybelline decided they were going all out with a bright palette of colors that is reminiscent of hot summer nights spent in a steamy colorful beach south of the equator. Yes, I know I am too pale to pull this off but hey, I love bright colors! I thought I could at least try!

When I looked at the entire display I was agog with excitement but I held back and purchased only a few items because they were Buy One, Get One 50% Off. I got two eyeshadow duos, Fine In Fiji (light shimmery lilac pink and bright shimmery purple) and Oriental Spice (bright shimmery coral and dark shimmery bronze brown). I bought a Color Sentational Lipstick in Caribbean Coral Luster (very bright coral) and Line Express Eyeliner in Getaway Green (bright shimmery acid green). I didn’t use the eyeliner in this look.

On the eyes I took the bright purple from the Fine in Fiji duo and used it in the crease. I ten took the bronze color from the Oriental Spice duo and used it on the outer corner of the lid and underneath the eye. I used the coral from the duo on the lid. Under the brow I used the lilac pink tone from the Fine in Fiji duo. For mascara I used Maybelline’s Lots of Lashes Great Lash in Black.

I didn’t buy any of the bronzers from the summer collection because they were too dark for me, but for this look I used Benefit’s La Bamba coral blush. I thought it would look very nice. I used a light nude lip liner on my lips and then applied the Caribbean Coral Luster lipstick. It is very shiny and bright, just the kind of coral I have been wearing this year. Maybe when summer rolls around I will use a spray tan and then try these colors again. Just a bit of HEALTHY tanned skin (spray only please!) and these colors will pop!
