The Stuff You Need: Le Teint Touche Eclat Review

100_4760
Touche Eclat Illuminating Concealer has reached the ultimate cult product status. So it is only fitting that Yves Saint Laurent Beaute decided to come out with Le Teint Touche Eclat (Illuminating Foundation). It is currently available from various outlets for $55.00. I purchased mine from www.barneys.com with free shipping. I have to say one thing. I love it. It is wonderful. Okay, that is two things!

100_4762100_4763
I purchased this foundation blind after hearing about the color selection. I got B10 (Beige). It is the perfect color for me, lightest neutral. It does have sunscreen, SPF19 (Octinoxate 7%). I applied the foundation with my trusty Beautyblender sponge because I get the best coverage that way. I think a foundation brush would do a great job too, but it would waste a lot of the product because you really don’t need that much. Hands might be ideal since it is so concentrated. I did apply over sunscreen. As you can see from the swatch above, you really don’t need very much to get good coverage. It is fairly thick and goes on quite nicely.
Immediately I noticed that the coverage was even and not matte but very nicely perfect. There wasn’t any shine but I did feel the need to apply powder (MAC Invisible Set).

Throughout the day I checked my face to see how the foundation was doing. Usually I would notice some shine on my nose, around the nose, cheeks, forehead and chin. I have to say this: there wasn’t any. It stayed perfect throughout the day!!!!!! I couldn’t believe it. As I mentioned, the coverage wasn’t matte but definitely illuminated, slightly pearly. My face had an ethereal glow to it. Did I mention that I love this foundation? I didn’t even want to swatch it because I didn’t want to waste a drop!!! I also think it is a good value when you consider that Touche Eclat is $40. If you want to purchase high end product, this is a great way to go. However, go to a counter if you can. I hope this review is helpful!

Liebster Blog Award

100_4726
My friend Samantha Nurbin Hedges has asked me to answer the following questions. Her friend was given a Liebster Blog Award. It is given to upcoming bloggers with 200 followers or less. Liebster is a German word meaning sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, and welcome. Samantha would like for me to be considered and wants me to answer these questions. I think it was very nice of her to offer!
1. What was the last thing you ate? Mashed potatoes. I take regular flakes from the box and doctor them up so they rock. I have a digestive illness and this is my comfort food.
2. If you could learn to cook one thing, what would it be? Galaktobouriko. It is a Greek pastry cake that is beyond wonderful and is hard to get right. I adore it. The one woman I know that makes it very well is extremely well liked in our local Greek community. Smile
3. If you were already in your car and had one hour to waste, what store would you visit? Sephora. Come on, seriously? It’s me we are talking about!
4. Where would you most like to travel to? I would love to see Rome. I have been to Venice but I really want to go to the romantic city. I was lucky enough to travel a lot when I was younger and unfortunately I didn’t get to see Rome.
5. What important items are you out of in your house right now? Chocolate. I love chocolate and I could use more of it.
6. Name three songs on your exercise/clean the house play list. I cannot really exercise or clean due to my disability but I love to listen to some music. I love AC/DC/s Back in Black, The Fixx’s Red Skies, Queen’s Another One Bites The Dust. I am an 80’s girl at heart!
7. What is your favorite form of internet procrastination? Playing Bejeweled. That game will get me going for hours.
8. What other writing project would you like to tackle beyond (or within) your blog? I would love to categorize some of my pigments from certain brands. I also want to do a skincare memorandum that goes over each decade discussing what is best. And finally I would love to discuss all the different options for skincare on the market.
9. What is your idea of happiness? Being with my husband and kids on vacation when I am healthy. My husband thinks he cannot make me happy and it frustrates him but he makes me happy just by existing.
10. If you could have any job, what would it be? I would love to go back to work as an esthetician for a dermatologist or plastic surgeon (my old job). Ultimately I would love to work for a line that solely treats acne. I love to work with acne. It is my goal to make people feel better about themselves.
11. What would you do if you had the house to yourself tonight? Cuddle with my husband!

I would like Camille to have a shot, Celia and JoJo.

Anastasia She Wears It Well Palette: Nude Meets Knockout!

100_4714100_4715100_4716
Okay, so by now if you read regularly you know that I have a huge thing for eyeshadow palettes. I adore them. When I was offered the chance to review this one, I jumped on it because I had seen it and adored it from afar!
Anastasia Beverly Hills (www.anastasia.net) was started by Anastasia Soare, who is an expert brow guru to the stars in Los Angeles. For years her products have been perfecting brows, with kits available on www.anastasia.net. Recently she decided to branch off into eye shadow and I can say I am very happy with the results. Her eyeshadows are soft, pigmented and have little to no fallout. I have tried some of the duos and love them. For fall Anastasia Beverly Hills has put out the She Wears It Well palette ($34.00, www.anastasia.net, www.sephora.com) a beautiful combination of 9 shadows where “nude meets knockout”.
100_4750
This palette has 3 mattes and 6 shimmers. In the above photo you can see swatches of each color from the left of the palette all the way to the right. The only color that was really hard to photograph was Frosting. All the others looked okay.
100_4726100_4727100_4749100_4734100_4731
For my “She Wears It Well” look I chose: Toffee (matte taupe brown) in the crease, Foxy (shimmery reddish bronzy brown) on the outer edge of the lid and under the eye. Then I used Sunset (shimmery light bronze brown) on the lid up into the crease) and Frosting (light shimmery pink) under the lid). For mascara I used Maybelline’s Great Lash Lots of Lashes in Black.
100_4759100_4720
I wanted a good nude look, so I chose to do a shaped cheek. I used MAC’s Sculpting Powder (Sculpt, light matte tan) and Shaping Powder (Accentuate, peach shimmer) to create the look of higher cheeks. On a trip to Canada recently I found L’Oreal Glam Shines, so I used one (Dolce Pralina, nude with silver shimmer) on my lips. I used to love these and I am hoping they bring these back to the states!
I love the look that the She Wears It Well shadows bring to my eyes today. I get a good nude but defined eye. The colors I chose help bring out the green in my eyes, but the colors are so varied I can see them being good for any eye color. This palette is a winner because the shadows are pigmented (always a good thing in my book) and the colors are so varied even though they are nude toned. I think $34.00 is a good price too for 9 shadows. I have seen many other palettes that are much more expensive with less quality and not as many shadows. All of the Anastasia products I have used are of the highest quality. I would love to hear some comments!

Below are some Anastasia Beverly Hills products that are loved by celebrities. Take a look at the profiles...

Refresh and Soothe Your Skin This Summer With emerginC Deglazing Toner

100_4713

emerginC’s Deglazing Toner is a wonderful addition to any skincare routine for those that have oily, acne prone skin. The Deglazing Toner is an active anti-bacterial liquid that not only soothes the skin but helps to improve its appearance through the active ingredient, citric acid (an alpha hydroxyl acid). It not only hydrates the skin but helps bring more circulation to the skin. The other active ingredients, such as camphor, eucalyptus, clove and peppermint, soothe and help get rid of excess bacteria and oil. The Deglazing Toner comes in an 8.1 fl. oz. bottle and is available for $29.00 wherever emerginC is sold (www.emerginc.com or various salons and spas).

The directions say it can be used morning and night after cleansing. emerginC also offers a Deglazing Cleanser that works in conjunction to help keep oil and bacteria at bay. Apply toner with a cotton ball or pad on clean skin. The deglazing toner has ingredients in it that are anti-bacterial and break up sebum. Sebum and dead skin cells, along with bacteria are the cause of pimples. After using it for a few days in this awful heat, I can absolutely say that this is a great product for those with oily, bacteria prone skin.

DNAEGF Renewal Foaming Cleanser

100_4688

Several times I have written about the items in the DNAEGF Renewal line, this line is a wonderful line started by Dr. Ronald Moy. He has taken his lifelong passion for science and developed a line that culminates in a futuristic approach to skincare. I am lucky enough to have tried a few of these items. Today I will be discussing the DNAEGF Renewal Cleanser. This cleanser is available from www.dnaegfrenewal.com for $28.00 (6.7 oz.)

100_4687

If you want clean, vibrant skin, the non-irritating exfoliation in this gentle foaming cleanser is perfect for you. It doesn’t have any artificial fragrances, sulfates or parabens. DNAEGF Renewal Foaming Cleanser will wash away all makeup, dirt and oils while providing a controlled release of AHC (glycolic ‘sugar’ acid) that can be used by even those with the most sensitive skins. This unique glycolic acid stimulates exfoliation and primes skin for maximum regeneration and cell turnover. The glycolic acid is a special sugar acid that is combined with an amino acid for a slow, controlled release to reduce stinging and eliminate irritation that is normally associated with AHA’s.

Use the cleanser in the morning or before bed to remove makeup. It can be applied with a washcloth or a soft brush. Rinse with warm water.

I really liked this cleanser. It is light and airy, yet removed my makeup very easily and made NY skin feel very smooth! It is definitely a good value and I can see adding this to my repertoire.

Stila In The Know Palette: Another Look

100_4519100_4520

Often when palettes come out I like to do two looks just to give everyone an idea of what the versatility is of the colors. I mentioned yesterday (http://iamthemakeupjunkie.blogspot.com/2012/07/stila-in-know-palette-review.html) that this palette really leans toward the warmer side. Today I thought I would do a warm look that plays off those tones.

100_4605

For today’s look I used Fire (matte bright terracotta) in the crease, outer edge of the lid and under the eye. I used Wind (matte medium warm cream tone) on the lid and under the brow Air (light matte cream). Then to line my lid I used an old Urban Decay liquid liner, Roach. I used Maybelline’s Volume Express Mega Plush Lash in Black. I found Fire to be very pigmented, so much that I wanted to tone it down. Air was okay, it added just a bit of depth to the lid. The top row of colors are all variations on light matte creams I think. There are Clay and Desert, which are old Stila colors.

On my cheeks and lips I found inspiration in an old MAC summer collection. I used X-Rocks Sheertone Shimmer Blush (shimmery dark rose bronze) on my cheeks. My lips are shimmery with Sunsonic Frost lipstick (shimmery light gold). Even though the palette is for fall, using some other summer colors brings it back to a transitional summer color base.

100_4572100_4580100_4585100_4593100_4595100_4583

Again, the In The Know palette is only available from www.stilacosmetics.com right now for $39.00. If you enjoy warm colors and some medium tones then you would enjoy this. The lighter colors have okay pigmentation, not the greatest. There is some fallout. They do blend well, which is good. As I mentioned yesterday, this palette reminds me of the great shadows from Stila’s past. Especially Fire, which I am loving today!

Stila In The Know Palette: Review

100_4519100_4520

Stila has been around a long time, almost 20 years. In that time they have gone through a lot of changes. The original owner, Jeanine Lobell, sold Stila to Estee Lauder. Lauder took Stila to new heights, making the company well known and many say compromising the quality in the process. Estee Lauder sold Stila to Lynn Tilton a few years ago. It has been her goal to bring back the quality and fun that Stila was once known for.

This fall Stila has come out with a small collection that contains a fun eyeshadow palette, In The Know (www.stilacosmetics.com, $39.00). This palette contains 10 matte shades that are reminiscent of the original mattes that Stila was famous for. Are they of the same high quality and pigmentation? Not necessarily, but they are close. The shades range from nude Air (matte cream with just a hint of sheen) to Ebony (matte black). They are silky and not chalky. There is some fallout but the pigmentation is pretty good. Is the palette worth $39.00? You get ten eyeshadows, which makes each one only $3.90. It also comes with a Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in Halfmoon, a dark shimmery gray color. The smudge stick goes on smoothly and doesn’t run. I used it on the top and bottom lid and was very happy with it.

All of the colors lean towards a warmer palette, so they are not really likely going to work for those who are really cool toned. I have to be honest there. Currently the palette is only at Stila’s website. If you are thinking that a warm palette of shadows might be nice for fall and you like warm tones, this one would work out nicely. Let me show you some of the shadows…

For my look I used: Rain (matte warm taupe) in the crease, Earth on the outer corner of the lid and under the eye. On the lid I used Clay (warm light terracotta) and under the brow Air (light nude matte cream). I used the Halfmoon smudge stick as mentioned on both the upper and lower lid to line. For mascara I used Extended Play Lash in Endlessly Black. On my cheeks I used Inglot’s Multicolor System Matte Face & Body Powder #92 and on my lips #173 lipstick (shimmery light pink).
