Review: Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation

100_4827
Just after my review of YSL’s Le Teint Touche Eclat, I was so excited to try Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Foundation. Urban Decay is taking the whole idea of “Naked” and expanding it into every type of makeup, from eyeshadow to foundation.
Naked Skin ($38.00, www.urbandecay.com, www.ulta.com, www.sephora.com or Ulta and Sephora stores) comes in 18 shades. Currently they are offering free shipping on orders. The first time I ordered it I tried 1.0 (very light fair skin with yellow undertones) because I am very fair with neutral skin. I tried it and found it to be a good match for my summer skintone. So I went and ordered 0.5 (very light fair skin with pink undertones) which is a pretty good match for my fall and winter skin. One note: there is no sunscreen in Naked Skin, so those who like, and should want, to wear their own sunscreens, can wear it without fear of allergic reactions. It is also paraben free.

The foundation is supposed to be weightless, natural and let the skin look illuminated and bright. It has a demi-matte finish with light diffusing spheres. Naked is infused with antioxidants and an ingredient called Matrixyl 3000, an anti-wrinkle peptide.
Urban Decay recommends shaking the foundation and applying with their foundation brush. I used my Beautyblender sponge and had great results. It doesn’t take very much product to achieve good coverage.
After wearing Naked Skin the entire day I looked at my face and was very happy because I did not have any oily breakthrough. Normally in this heat I would have some shine on the T-Zone. In the winter I don’t, but in the summer my skin changes (which is normal), so it is nice that this didn’t happen. What a pleasant surprise!

I tried Naked Skin a second day because I felt that the first day I had applied too much. Again, using the Beautyblender sponge, I applied just a little and worked the coverage up as needed. From the photo above you can see that the foundation is pretty heavy on coverage. It is buildable, another plus. Even though it is listed at having a demi-matte finish, I found that having sunscreen underneath gave it some shine. That is why I applied some powder, MAC Invisible Set (my favorite, a white translucent, truly invisible powder).
Okay, so how do I feel about Naked Skin? I really like it! If pushed I would say YSL’s Le Teint Touche Eclat is better but this is a close second. Both are excellent foundations. I think Urban Decay has come out with a winner this time. This one is definitely less expensive but the quality is very good. Over the years Urban Decay has become a top contender in the cosmetics industry and this foundation is an example of why that is so.

  1. Great review. I've been interested in this foundation for a while after hearing so many good things about it. But I have really pale skin and wondered if 0.5 would be pale enough for me, by the looks of this it looks like it would suit my skintone!
