A Virtual Tour of Medicine Mama’s Apothecary: How the Magic Happens

100_1305_thumb[2]
I was lucky enough to be invited to take a virtual tour of the Medicine Mama’s Apothecary. If you go to http://www.medicinemamasapothecary.com/ you will find an abundance of homemade, organic products that take homage from bees. Personally, I have always loved bees. They are perfect creatures that give and take from the earth: without bees we would not have fruits, honey and our lives would be great diminished. In fact, honeybees are in great danger now and we must take care that they are taken care of by us (http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/video/honeybees-dying-causing-drop-honey-production-11089407).

Donna Steinmann is the owner of Medicine Mama’s Apothecary. Donna started out by going to doctor’s offices and hospitals with her creams. Her business literally took off when one day she showed up at a store with a few products in a basket. The owner of the store liked the products, wanted to sell them and asked if he could have all of them, if she could get some labels, etc. From then on her business has now boomed into over 1000 stores in just 24 months. She has two organic seals, one from Whole Foods and the other is the main Organic Certification for Food Grade Raw Materials. She sells to Whole Foods, many natural food stores, estheticians and Kaiser Permanete.
There are 7 products in the line up currently. All of her products are made with six ingredients, except for the lip balm, which adds in avocado oil. The main ingredients are: olive oil, bee pollen, beeswax, Royal Jelly, propolis and honey. All the products are done in small batches, 25 gallons at a time 600-700 batches. The batches must be done at a precise temperature of 140 degrees. What fascinates me is how she can get so many different products with just these ingredients!

The cornerstone of her line is Sweet Bee Magic. This is a miracle healing cream. If you have an wound or a scratch, this cream will heal it. The Sweet Bee Magic Wand takes the magic of the Sweet Bee Magic Cream and packages it in a wand. VMagic is for the more intimate area of a woman’s body, by moisturizing, soothing and repairing the tissue there. Previously I have done a review of the Bee Magic Wand (http://iamthemakeupjunkie.blogspot.com/2012/04/medicine-mamas-sweet-bee-magic-wand.html).  I did the review back in April, and I am STILL using the Bee Magic Wand! It lasts forever! I’m very happy with how soothing the lip balm is. Baby & Mama Gentle Nourishing Skin Cream is perfect for pregnant women or their babies. It is soothing and helps protect sensitive skin. Finally, Sweet Blessed Bee Magic is available online only and is due to the recent organic certification of the line. It is a label change only she assures.

I would like to that the Medicine Mama for allowing me to tour her facility and letting me in on her secret! It was a fascinating look at her world. Please go and take a look! I am sure you will love her products as much as I do!
