Men’s Personal Care Product Reviews

emerginC Liquid Gel Cleanser and Balla Powder For Men

Men need to take care of their skin and themselves too. It doesn’t matter if your man is a metrosexual or a man who doesn’t care if he is using soap or shampoo for everything (my husband happens to love masculine shower gel and shampoo but can’t be bothered for much else). This post is dedicated to those men. Well, it’s really dedication to men in general. We love it when you smell good. And we women love it when you look good.

emerginC Liquid Gel Cleanser For MenImagine your husband or significant other being able to have nice, soft skin that isn’t too oily, too dry but is just right. emerginC has come out with a fabulous Liquid Gel Cleanser that has a wonderful lemongrass and light pine scent. It is formulated with hops, that has great antiseptic properties and pine, for its refreshing, stimulating essential oil. The cleanser removes oil and dirt without over drying the skin. The astringents rosemary and horsetail, lemon, citric acid and Vitamin C all work overtime to cleanse deep down into the pores to keep the skin as clean as possible.

This cleanser is great for all skin types, as it is not too harsh. It can be used morning and night. Wet the skin, lather and rinse thoroughly. Can be used before or after shaving. My husband used this and liked the scent, which is not too overpowering but definitely manly. And from what I understand it does a great job at cleansing without over drying. The cleanser is great for men who love to take care of themselves.

Balla Powder for Men is intended for use in the private area of a man’s body. It is a powder that will keep a man dryBalla Powder For Men and free of excess moisture. It is also intended for an area that any dryness, a little fragrance or a little bit of tingle is desired. Use any time of the year, in any situation. Apply by spreading a little bit in the desired area, using your hands and spreading it on the desired area, or use the sifter to apply. It contains a non-Asbestiform talc, zinc oxide (great for chaffing) and a couple of other non active ingredients.

There are two formulas. The original formula has an oak/musk scent. The tingle formula has a mint scent and tingles somewhat upon application. For those that are not interested in a scent, there is also a fragrance free formula. From what I have been told it does it a good job protecting against chaffing and leaving areas dry and protected.  Available: www.ballapowder.com to see locations. $15.00

Get The Summer's Hottest Makeup Look

A STUNNING PEACOCK EYE FROM NYC NEW YORK COLOR

THINK: How to get the hottest summer eye look.

WHAT IT IS: Your guide to the ultimate bold, multifaceted eye color trend. The graduated shade peacock eye appeared all over runways during spring/summer Fashion Week, ranging from a subtle sweep of gold and bronze to a bold, multicolored version of the sultry look. Using the brilliant blues, greens, purples, and gold shadows of the moment, topped with a dramatic black liner and a swipe of sexy mascara, this look-at-me makeup trend will definitely have you strutting. Put a fresh twist on saturated, peacock-inspired shades with must-have eye makeup tools from NYC New York Color.

Here's all you need to get the look:

  • Start by blending a combination of green and purple shadows to mimic a peacock feather. Use NYC New York Color's HD Trio Eye Shadow in West Vintage ($2.99), which contains pale and dark green shadows plus a dramatic purple for an all-in-one pick. Add a shimmering highlight with the golden shade found in the Streets Paved in Gold HD Trio Eye Shadow palette. The high-definition, pigment packed shades deliver brilliant saturated color that lasts for hours. Each shadow glides on smoothly, with luxurious velvety color in soft, silky textures, and the palette includes instructions for fool-proof application.
  • Start by applying the lightest shadow from the corner of the eye to about 1/3 of the way across the lid with the included applicator. Apply the lightest shadow in a sweeping motion across the brow bone as well.
  • Next, apply the middle shade down the center of the lid, so that the lid is now 2/3 covered with shadow. Extend the shadow to the top of the lid, making sure the color is completely saturated.
  • Finally, apply the deepest shadow to the last 1/3 of the lid, blending it in the outer corner of the lid so that you can see it peeking out from the lid.
  • Next, line the eye with NYC New York Color High Definition Felt Tip Liner in black ($3.99) . This smooth liquid liner allows you to easily draw a line and flick it up at the corner to create a cat eye. A larger flick makes it more pronounced while a smaller flick is a more subtle take on this look. The liner is virtually mess-proof and mistake-proof and offers up to ten hours of wear.
  • Finish with several generous coats of NYC New York Color's Big Bold Curl mascara ($4.99) . This mascara gives lashes up to 12x more volume and 99% more lift. One stroke multiplies your lashes by up to 147%. With an innovative oversized brush, this maximum intensity mascara plumps lashes with a single stroke for 99% more curl and lift. With a smudge-proof, smear-proof, and flake-proof long lasting formula, there's not a clump in sight—just 16 hours of exponential volume for high drama eyes.

Just follow this step-by-step guide to create the summer's hottest eye makeup look.

B6 VITAMIN-INFUSED COMPLEXION PREP SPRAY

Calm a multitude of sins with each spritz.

64370_B6prep

Just when our high-tech Makeup Setting Sprays were getting a little lonely on the shelf, our product
development team had the brilliant idea to create an antioxidant-rich prep spray. In an exclusive
partnership with SKINDINÄVIA, Urban Decay launches B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Spray.
This scientifically advanced formula contains the FIRST stabilized form of vitamin B6, which absorbs
oil, minimizes pores and reduces redness. Spritz it on any time of day to hydrate, prep and soften
your skin with vitamins and antioxidants. Use it in the morning to prep and “wake up” your skin,
during the day to refresh your skin (without messing up your makeup), or at night before your
treatment. Versatile enough for people of all ages and skin types (MEN included!), this energizing
formula is great for your skin AND it feels amazing. And the more you use it, the better the results!

In an 8-week clinical study of B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Spray:
• Over 81% of participants had a measurable reduction in oil and surface shine.
• Over 78% had more radiant skin with less redness and fewer blemishes.
• A majority of participants had a measurable improvement in pore size.
• Over 72% had a measurable improvement in their skin’s overall appearance.

This stuff is ADDICTIVE! It’s been making the rounds in our office, and even the people who don’t
really “get it” at first wind up loving it. But the real test was when we brought some to Tim, our
CEO. Ever the skeptic, he thought we were nuts—but once he tried it, he LOVED it. That’s when we
knew we had a huge hit on our hands.

B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Spray comes in a sleek, soft-touch bottle (dark purple, of
course) with a bright neon-green sprayer. Like our setting sprays, it emits a calibrated, microfine
mist that goes on so light, you’ll hardly feel it.
This nourishing spray is loaded with ingredients that are good for your skin. Vitamin B6 helps
normalize overactive cell-signaling proteins (called cytokines) to help control sebum production,
vitamin E provides antioxidants, and willow bark (rich in natural salicylic acid) aids cell turnover.
And it’s oil- and paraben-free.

B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Spray (SRP $33) is available from Sephora, ULTA and select
Macy’s stores. Or, online at sephora.com, ulta.com, macys.com, beauty.com and urbandecay.com.

Review: FLOWER About Face Foundation

Flower About Face Foundation

Yes, I am about to review another foundation. This one was very surprising to me. Not only did I like it, it has become one I like very much. The About Face foundation is one many will like, if they give it a try.

The FLOWER line was created by actress Drew Barrymore and is carried at Wal-Mart. I only go to Wal-Mart for a few reasons, to get Dramamine in 100 count bottles, as they are the only ones who carry it and for the Hard Candy makeup line. But, now that this line is carried there, I have another reason to go there! The only problem is that the makeup section is so messy and you have to make sure you go to the cleaner Wal-Marts. Last time I was there, I loaded up on a lot of things from the FLOWER line and my Dramamine (I use it for my vertigo attacks). I will try and do a review those items too some day. The lipsticks are amazing, the eye shadows are very pigmented and the cream blushes are very nice sublime. Over all I am so impressed with this line in general.

Now, about the About Face foundation. I purchased the lightest color, LF1. It comes in 14 shades and the suggested  retail price is $13.98. It has a pump that gets the right amount of foundation out for you (one or two pumps at the most). Apply by using a sponge or with a brush. Also, I immediately noticed how thick it is. This foundation is very creamy in nature, which means it is likely also pigmented. And after I used it I found out that it is pigmented. The coverage is medium to heavy, depending on how much you want to apply. Its definitely not sheer. It goes on beautifully, I stipple with my Beautyblender sponge and then get just the right amount of coverage I want. Poof! It’s like heaven. Also, it wears extremely well. It pretty much lasts all day long without budging much. That was a surprise that I was not expecting. The FLOWER About Face foundation would get 4 1/2 out of 5 stars from me. The only thing missing is color is just slightly off. What else is new?

FLOWER About Face_swatchFLOWER About Face_swatch2FLOWER About Face_swatch 3

(No.1. Dollop of About Face Foundation, you can see how thick and creamy it is. No.2. See the foundation spread out some and see how pigmented it is. No.3. Foundation is blended into skin and coverage is pretty good.

This foundation has the following benefits:

  • It is moisturizing.
  • It has seamless coverage.
  • Covers imperfections and evens the skin tone.
  • It has anti-oxidants Vitamins C & E to combat free radicals.
  • Is fragrance free and paraben free.

DSC03221DSC02379

(Two photos of me wearing FLOWER About Face Foundation LF1)

What type of people could use FLOWER About Face Foundation? This foundation is not the kind that I would recommend for oilier skins. It is pretty moisturizing and I think it would bring out the shine on the T-Zone (at least, if not more) after a couple of hours. It is more suitable for normal to drier skins. And I really wouldn’t recommend it for acneic skins. Even though it is has great coverage, this would be a no-no with the amount sebum production that these skins have going on, not to mention inflammation and eruptions. You don’t want to accentuate oily skins with a product that is so creamy. I found that it covers so well I can even use it as concealer!!!! That being said, it’s on those days when I don’t have really bad dark circles under my eyes. For the money this is a great product.

Review: Thymes Mandarin Coriander Aromatic Hobnail Candle

Thymes Mandarin Coriander Aromatic Candle (1)Thymes Mandarin Coriander Aromatic Candle (2)

Candles are everyone’s favorite way to help deliver fragrance to a “smelly”, particularly odiferous room. They can deliver fragrance without being so strong that it is overwhelming. A good candle can give off a distinctive odor that can help let one associate with memories, hopefully pleasant. It’s worth spending a little bit more money on a candle that will last longer, have an aroma that is stronger and is definitely more pleasant than the less expensive candles you can find.

The Thymes Mandarin Coriander Aromatic Hobnail Candle has a very pleasant aroma that combines cold-pressed mandarin, grapefruit, lemon balm and sweet orange peel. These wonderful, vibrant citrus notes combine with sweet marjoram, coriander, rosemary leaves, bold notes of cedarwood, ivy and Irish moss. When you take a whiff of the candle it smells like a bright, woody citrus fragrance. I love it! These are the only kinds of fragrances I can handle because of my migraines. Having this keep my room smelling clean will be great because I can keep from feeling sick.

This candle is supposed to be long lasting. That is what I am looking for. I lit it up one night and let it go for 4 hours. If DSC03245you look at the photograph on the right you can see that after 4 hours, this is how much the candle burned. It’s not that much. I kept it inside, away from the wind. It was in my kitchen and I wanted it to get rid of the fish smell, because we had cooked fish for Friday dinner. I will say that it did get rid of most of the smell, not all of it. I asked my daughter’s friends who came over if they could still smell the fish in the house and they said barely but it was still perceptible. I am happy about that. Because let me tell you this, prior to using the candle, the odor was horrendous!

The candle comes in a hobnail container, made of glazed white ceramic. It looks good with just about any décor. And it would make a great hostess gift, holiday gift or gift for any occasion.

Thymes Mandarin Coriander Aromatic Hobnail Candle is $30.00 in a 5.5 oz. net wt./155 g container and is available on www.thymes.com or at specialty stores where Thymes collections are carried. There are many other wonderful items in the Mandarin Coriander collection, such as hand wash, soap, hand lotion, larger candles and home fragrance spray.

Custom Cheer Make-Up from Pretty Girl Cosmetics Embraces Team Spirit

photo-300x284

Pretty Girl Cosmetics, a premier cheer and dance makeup brand developed specifically for stage performance, officially launches its new website this week.

Pretty Girl Cosmetics offers cheerleaders and dancers across the country great value and a simple, high-quality solution to their cosmetic woes. With a range of stage make-up products as well as a brand new custom make-up kit options, Pretty Girl Cosmetics can ensure that cheer and dance teams have uniformity in their make-up application, using vivid eye shimmer colors which are entirely free from harmful ingredients and 100% pure mineral makeup.

Colleen Dugan of Pretty Girl Cosmetics said, “As a cheer mom and coach, I have seen first-hand the poor quality over priced stage makeup many girls must wear for cheer competitions and dance recitals. I have also witnessed each member of the team having to buy their products separately, there was no element of uniformity throughout the group, and many of the products were harsh on young, delicate skin. I decided to combine my love of chemistry and craft in order to create a range of safe, high-quality make-up products for cheer and dance teams to create custom looks that will enhance their overall appearance and contribute to the team spirit and confidence that every good squad needs.”

Colleen Dugan has a degree in chemistry from SUNY College in New York, and has worked for a number of household brand names mixing, measuring, smelling and testing some of the cosmetic items that people use every day. After many years working in this industry, her individual foray into the world of cosmetics aims to provide cheer and dance teams across the country with the consistency in appearance that they need when competing at the highest level.

One of the main criteria for cheer and dance make-up is that the color must be vivid, pigmented and long lasting enough to stand out under strong, bright stage lights. Pretty Girl Cosmetics’ product enhances stage appearance, is long lasting and has a wide range of colors, with bright blues, shimmering pinks, vivid purples and rich reds. Whether it is sparkling mineral eye-shadow or pigmented lip-stain, sweeping eyelashes or bold blusher, the custom make-up supplier has a vast selection, all of which will look stunning under the stage lights.

Many teams also find it difficult to find an exact makeup color match that will complement their uniforms. Pretty Girl Cosmetics offers a free cosmetic consultation service for all cheer and dance teams, in which the cosmetic experts will create a custom color palette for each team, consisting of eye and lip colors, eyeliner and sparkling cosmetic glitter. The custom kits come with a free make-up bag to store the items, and when buying multiple kits, squads can receive up to 30% quantity discount, making it easier than ever to ensure affordable performance cosmetics to earn the squad extra appearance points.

A dedicated supplier of performance make-up and cosmetic solutions to dance and cheer teams across the US, Pretty Girl Cosmetics specializes in highly pigmented stage make-up that is gentle to skin and will enhance the appearance of any cheer or dance squad.

#EndlessLashes Review: Rimmel London Lash Accelerator Endless Mascara

Rimmel Lash Accelerator MascaraI was lucky enough to receive a tube of Rimmel Lash Accelerator mascara from Influenster last month. This mascara is supposed not only make lashes appear much longer upon application, it is specially formulated to encourage lash growth. I have been testing this mascara every day to see if my lashes have been growing. Luckily when I got this my lashes were in a very puny state. I don’t know what had happened to them but the ones on my left eye had been shortened a lot.

I got this mascara at the end of May. It has been around a month now that I have been using Rimmel London Lash Accelerator Endless Mascara. I started with some puny short lashes and I must say that now I have some nice medium to long lashes without mascara. Look at the photographs WITH mascara. WOW. This is not a lie. There is a difference. I have been using it diligently. I wanted to see if a mascara could make a difference in how long my lashes could be. It is a pleasantly surprise that my lashes are much longer with continued use.

(top: Photo here exhibits how short my lashes on June1st)

DSC03160

(top: Photo taken June 24th shows MAJOR improvement in lashes on left eye, bottom lashes and top lashes)

My only concern is that will they stay this long? Will I need to keep using Rimmel London Lash Accelerator Endless Mascara? I like this mascara a lot. It does great things for my lashes. I think you will like it too!

Review: Too Faced Pretty Rebel Eye Shadow Palette

Too Faced Pretty Rebel Eye Shadow PaletteToo Faced Pretty Rebel Eye Shadow Palette_inside

I am writing this as of June 24, 2013. It’s not even July and Too Faced Cosmetics has their Fall collection out. WOW! And their eye shadow palette is awesome. I have always been a fan of their eye shadows and they don’t disappoint this time. The Pretty Rebel palette contains 10 lovely eye shadows that are mostly shimmers are so fun to wear. Let’s get the review on the road!

Too Faced Pretty Rebel Eye Shadow Palette_swatches 1

(from left: Dainty, Charming, Girly, Totally Fetch and Miss Sparkles)

Too Faced Pretty Rebel Eye Shadow Palette_swatches2

(from left: Ringleader, Gansta, Instigator, Badass and Jailbird)

All of the eye shadows in the Pretty Rebel palette are new. I love this! The shades are jewel tone shades. Of the 10 eye shadows in this palette, 5 of them are pure shimmers, 2 are mattes, 2 are glitter sparkles and 1 is a satin. The colors and descriptions are as follows: Dainty (matte warm cream), Charming (matte chocolate), Girly (shimmery brown shift with green), Totally Fetch (satin fuchsia), Miss Sparkles (black glitter sparkles silver), Ringleader (shimmery warm champagne), Gangsta (shimmery light warm bronze), Instigator (shimmery Olympic gold), Badass (glittery silver blue) and Jailbird (shimmery blue silver). The colors in the Pretty Rebel palette are all very pigmented. The ones that I did not use on my look today I found easy to swatch and they were pigmented as when I swatched them. There was some fallout when I did use some of the shadows today, as some of them are pretty soft, especially the shimmers. That is normal for shimmer eye shadows, especially shimmery ones. There wasn’t any fallout when I applied the eye shadows, which was nice. Especially for Totally Fetch. That bright eye shadow went on well and was smooth and satiny.

The palette comes with a look book that gives you 3 looks to choose from. All of them are very nice and easy to do. I chose to try one of them today, Pretty Rebel. I only changed one of the eye shadows, Badass, since I am not really a fan of blue eye shadows. For the look I used Dainty all over the lid and under the brow. Then I used Totally Fetch on the lid and then Gansta on the outer corner of the lid and under the eye. I lined with Girly. I liked this because Girly reminds me of MAC’s Club, but without the red in it. I did use Rimmel mascara and Illamasqua liquid liner in Havoc (burgundy).

Too Faced Pretty Rebel_look1Too Faced Pretty Rebell_look5Too Faced Pretty Rebel_look3

On my lips I used the new Lip Injection Color Bomb in Coral Pop. This is supposed to make my lips look very large and almost bee stung. I will say that when I put it on my lips felt like they had an allergic reaction for a few minutes. It says it is called Moisture Plumping Lip Tint but I am not sure if I feel any moisture.

I like the Pretty Rebel eye shadow palette, I am very happy to have purchased it. Too Faced has done it again! This palette is limited edition, so if you want it, you had better order it soon! I think this will be a big winner for the fall season. Currently this is only available on www.toofacedcosmetics.com for $46.00, but I am sure it will be at their other doors soon! Let me know if you purchased this and what you think of it!

Review: L’Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder Foundation

L'Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder Foundation

The other night I went to Rite-Aid and they had placed a number of their cosmetic displays way up on the top of the shelving out of reach for 99% of the customers because as the manager said, “the companies kept shipping product but the store wouldn’t recall any of the displays”. Luckily I am 6’1” and can reach way up there. I saw the display for a foundation, L’Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder. There were about 12 shades and it really didn’t give much information except that this foundation “transforms from liquid to powder for the perfect bare skin finish”.

I picked up the lighted shade, Light Ivory 310. This does have a SPF 18, Octinoxate 3%.  To use, they recommend to pour a few drops onto fingers and apply on face. Upon application of the product I immediately felt that this shade might be a little too yellow for me. The coverage is actually very good. It is a sheer to medium coverage foundation, depending on how you use it. If you use your fingers, then you will definitely get a sheer, bare skin look. Try a foundation sponge and you will get a medium coverage result. I wouldn’t recommend a foundation brush because it dries too fast. After it dries it, it dries to a semi-matte finish. It does dry pretty fast.

L'Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder_Light Ivory swatch

(top: swatch of Light Ivory Magic Nude Liquid Powder foundation)

In the photographs below you can see how I blended the droplets out for you so that you can see the kind of coverage it can give you. I took just two drops from the bottle and with those two drops (large drops mind you), I took a large section of my forearm and blended out a section with coverage of the Magic Nude Liquid Powder foundation. Then as it was drying I blended it out more to show you how nice the coverage is. It took a lot of soap for the product to come off BTW.

L'Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder swatch2L'Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder swatch3

(top: Magic Nude Liquid Powder spread out, bottom: Magic Nude Liquid Powder completely dry)

Magic Nude Liquid Powder kind of reminds me of Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Foundation (http://iamthemakeupjunkie.blogspot.com/2012/09/review-giorgio-armani-maestro-fusion.html), which has the same kind of consistency. To apply that one you use your fingers and it kind of is liquid to powder. This one however is much, much less expensive. And this one doesn’t have the same wonderful technology that went into making it, but nevertheless this foundation has its good qualities too. The Armani one is lipid based.

On my face below I am wearing Magic Nude Liquid Powder foundation with a little bit of Nars Light Reflecting Loose Powder on top. The color is okay for summer, it’s close to my skin (I have a very hard time with foundations, which is why I write a lot of foundation reviews. I am in search of the perfect one!) I would say this one is good for those with normal/combination skin. Dry skins can if used with a good amount of moisturizer and exfoliants. Oily skins definitely can use this, it’s mattifying so that right up their alley! Acneic skins? I don’t think it would be a very good fit for those with eruptions. Yes, it has good coverage but the powdery finish would play up the look of acne blemishes.

Review: Umberto Beverly Hills Hair Care & Styling Items

UmbertoBeverly Hills Masque_ Roman Oil and Conditioning Spray

Umberto Beverly Hills is a line of high quality that hair care products that has been out in the market for a few years but recently got a thorough makeover. I was lucky enough to try out a few products from the line. These products are developed by noted hairstylist and master cutter Umberto of Beverly Hills. Through this line his experience and personal attention that he pays to all of his clients is evident in the quality of the products. That careful attention has gone into the development of this hair care collection. This line will be sold exclusively at West Coast Salons, Target stores and www.target.com.

Repair Treatment Masque

Intensive therapy for damaged and chemically treated hair.

Umberto Beverly Hills_Repair Treatment Masque Umberto Beverly Hills Repair Treatment Masque_inside

A deep conditioning treatment that uses amino acids derived the ocean to revive and renew the strength of the hair. It contains algae, wheat and soy protein, which are the same softeners used in salon brands. It coats the hair in a rich, thick formula that rinses clean. Hair is left feeling strong and healthy, it reduces split ends and frizz. Adds body and lots of shine to the hair. Most of all, the Repair Treatment Masque protects color from fading, which is the most important factor in product selection for women with chemically treated hair.

I love how thick this is. It goes on the hair and is definitely “mask” like. A very luxurious feel to this conditioning mask. The label says to leave on for 10-20 minutes, with or without heat. If you use heat, even just something like plastic wrap around the hair and then use a towel over that, it will create a better result. Products like this need don’t need heat to work but it helps. I find that I can use it in the shower right after I shampoo, then keep it in for the 10 minutes needed (I take long showers). My hair comes out really, really soft. And when I style it, it does stay soft the whole day. Frizziness is banished too!!!!!! $12.99 6 oz./170 g tub.

Controller Conditioning Spray

Detangles and protects against heat damage.

Umberto Beverly Hills Controller Conditioning Spray

This is a lightweight detangling spray and leave in conditioner that adds shine, controls frizziness and adds manageability. It is formulated with soy proteins. The Controller Conditioning Spray prevents fly aways, split ends and tames static electricity without weighing down hair. Most of all, it protects against heat damage.

The best way to use this spray is to use a small amount on ends or all-over on towel-dried hair. Comb or brush through. I found that it is similar to other detangling sprays I have used, but this spray is a little bit better at controlling heat damage. I love that it doesn’t weigh down hair in any way. Most other sprays do. It makes hair shiny enough that you wouldn’t need any other products if you have fine hair. $12.99 9 fl. oz./266 ml

Roman Oil Serum

An exotic silicone styling and conditioning product.

Umberto Beverly Hills Roman Oil Serum

This elixir will not weigh down hair thanks to a sheer formula that absorbs instantly into hair, leaving it feeling smooth and silky. This serum smoothes, conditions, and tames the frizz of coarse unruly hair. It adds body and shine to flat dull hair. Natural Italian olive oil and gardenia essence provide exceptional conditioning benefits that last all day long.

Only a small drop or two of Roman Oil Serum is needed. Apply in the palm of the hand, rub into hair and blow dry as usual. I find that this is much different than most silicone serums. I love that it is so much lighter. It works for any hair type, fine to extremely coarse. After blow drying I tried just a tiny bit in my hair to give it a little bit more frizz control and shine (my hair is funky and I have always had problems with frizz, often needing multiple products). $12.99 2 fl.oz./60ml

Verdict: I have tried a lot of hair products. I find these very comparable to salon products and the prices are good. All of them do what they say they are going to do, which is a good thing. We consumers love products that are like that! Also, I think they go above and beyond in a few ways. The Repair Treatment Masque just makes my hair very manageable. I find that most deep conditioners don’t do as well on my hair for this price. The Controller Conditioning Spray is great for preventing heat damage, which is great if you use straightening irons (my daughters used this spray too and loved it). It helps protect and close off the hair cuticle, so that is awesome! Finally, the Roman Oil Serum is not just another pretty face for those who use silicone serums for preventing frizz. This one is much lighter, so you don’t feel all “oily”. Umberto Beverly Hills products are available at Target stores and www.target.com.

For those with thin, light eyebrows, eyeglasses with a rimless bottom work best.  The top rim puts emphasis at the brow bone level and can almost serve as a faux brow.

Conversely, for those with thick, groomed eyebrows, completely rimless glasses look best because they help showcase strong features and not weigh down the eye.

Straight brows do best when complemented by softened rectangular lenses.  This look is best to mimic the shape but with gentler lines to balance the severity.  Rounder lenses also help balance a wider forehead which is often the case with straighter eyebrows.

With highly arched eyebrows, straighter, narrower frames help anchor the brow and make it lessen the dramatic lift of arched brows.

Curved, rounder eyebrows are complemented by frames with angular boxy edges.  This style works best to help strike a balance with the exaggerated curvature of the brow.

If your eyebrows are widely spaced, look for glasses with a narrower nose bridge that's well defined.

Reviews: LORAC Color Correcting Cream and SEPHORA Skin Perfect CC Cream SPF 20

LORAC CC Cream and SEPHORA CC Cream

I thought I would review the following two CC creams together because I purchased them at the same time, have been using them for a while and they exemplify the trend in foundation type creams that are on the market at this time. We are past the “BB Cream” stage and on to “CC Cream””. What is a CC Cream exactly?

A CC Cream is more of a color correcting cream. Instead of being very sheer like a BB cream, a CC cream has more tint to it and will actually neutralize redness and sallowness in the skin in addition to the main function that the BB cream does.

LORAC Color Correcting Cream:

LORAC CC Cream This cream has much a lot of pigment to it. That is one of the main reasons that I purchased it. It also neutralizes redness and sallowness, covers blemishes, brightens, hydrates and soothes the skin. Red seaweed primes, while hyaluronic acid helps to add moisture to the skin and Vitamin C brightens. Aloe Vera, chamomile, calendula, soothe the skin, while anti-oxidants such as vitamins A and E and green and white tea can keep the skin looking healthy and more youthful. LORAC Color Correcting Cream is formulated without parabens, oil, silicones, fragrances, sulfates and phthalates. It is suitable for all skin types. This cream comes in three shades: a light, medium and tan.

I have worn this cream numerous times now. I was trying to see if it was too light, just right or how LORAC Color Correcting Cream_swatchwell it really wore on me. I decided that the color is not too light, even though the light color is VERY light, which is surprising. It is hard to find one of these creams where the light color is extremely light enough. For summer it will not be right enough though, I think it is just too light for summer. It wears beautifully. This is a great cream. It is very pigmented and covers a lot of my freckles. The cream is really almost a foundation.

LORAC Color Correcting Cream is $28.00 for 1.23 oz./36.5ml and is available via www.loraccosmetics.com, www.sephora.com, www.ulta.com, www.beauty.com, SEPHORA stores and Ulta stores.

SEPHORA Skin Perfect CC Cream

SEPHORA Skin Perfect CC Cream SPF 20

SEPHORA Skin Perfect CC Cream also color corrects and perfects the complexion and it promises a lightweight finish. The cream has a Hydra24 Complex that hydrates the skin and mimimizes the appearance of pores while licorice extract evens the skintone and sea kale acts as an anti-aging agent to smooth the skin and the appearance of fine lines. This can be worn alone or under foundation as a primer. It is for all skin types. And it is also formulated without parabens, sulfates and phthalates, it’s oil-free, fragrance free and can be used on senistive skin.

I also tried the SEPHORA Skin Perfect CC Cream SPF 20 many times. This one is a little different for a few reasons. First, it has a sunscreen in it. You will like this!!!!! The sunscreen is mineral! Yes, everyone can use it because the sunscreen ingredients are tintanium dioxide(5.1% )and zinc oxide (2.8%). I know a lot of people that will be happy about this. Second, the coloring in this is slightly different. It is pigmented but not as much. The lightest color is definitely darker than SEPHORA Skin Perfect CC Cream_swatchthe LORAC one. It comes in 7 shades. I feel that the lightest shade is just a little too dark for me. But at least this one will be great for darker skin tones. However, it is not as pigmented as I would like it to be. I would not purchase this to use as a primer. Also, this wears okay. I do find that by the end of the day my makeup has kind of “melted”.

(Top: swatch of SEPHORA Skin Perfect CC Cream in Fair)

SEPHORA Skin Perfect CC Cream SPF 20 is $26.00 for 1 oz./30ml and is available via www.sephora.com or at SEPHORA stores.

I think I would prefer the LORAC one over the SEPHORA one. It is just more pigmented and I find that it wears better.
