RANT! Open Letter To MAC Cosmetics…#MACRant #MAC

DSC08091DSC08098

Dear MAC,

For many years I have loved your cosmetics. You set the standard for beauty in the industry. I can remember the first eye shadow I purchased from your line, Humid. A gorgeous shimmery bright green with depth that left my eyes looking so hot I instantly fell in love with with the infamous MAC Cosmetics line. Well, I hate to say this, but the love affair is over. Yes, over.

I am tired of paying large sums of money for products that are subpar in quality. I am tired of collections that come out every couple of weeks just to cause a frenzy and to rob the money from our credit cards,  all in the name of profits with products that are not worth using anymore. For the past few years the quality has slowly been creeping downhill and I have watched. Saddened really, because I saw this coming and had seen this very same thing happen with Stila. Every time I purchase products from a new collection from MAC now I am not happy.

MAC Divine Night Mineralize Eye Shadows

(eye shadows used above and the ones I had issues with: Until Dawn, Past Midnight and Exquisite Ego)

The eye shadows I just purchased from the Divine Night collection are practically worthless. I could not get any good payoff at all. I don’t know why I even bothered but they looked so pretty. I also had issues with the new Fluidline, which went on watery. The blushes are beautiful and the lipsticks and lip glosses are okay but the core of the collection should be able to carry it off. This isn’t the first time I have been so disappointed. I was utterly destroyed from the RiRi Fall collection, after waiting for hours to order and getting the worst eye shadows I had ever used!

I am just so sad because I love MAC and hate to have to give it up for lack of quality. But, when I spend money on makeup, I expect the following: good pigmentation, good payoff, no fallout and long wear. I am not getting this anymore so I am afraid I have to sever my relationship with the brand. It is a sad day for me because I have been a fan of the brand for a very long time, I would say at least as long as I have been in the beauty business. But, there are other brands that are surpassing MAC with good quality these days: Illamasqua, Inglot, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, tarte, Too Faced Cosmetics and many more. So I will spend my money elsewhere.

IF YOU AGREE WITH THIS RANT, PLEASE RE-BLOG or RE-TWEET SO MAC MAY GET WIND OF THIS!

Thanks for a good long run MAC, I hope you decide to come back to your roots!

Sincerely,

Marie Papachatzis

    1. This really means a lot to me. MAC has disappointed me greatly these days and I just cannot validate spending more money on them.

  2. I agree whole heartedly. I used to use MAC eyeshow and liner exclusively but over the last couple of years I have been forced to find something new. I use Mally liners because they don't budge. Period. And I typically use Tarte shadow. It reminds me of my old MAC products. I order them from QVC because it's easy and if there's an issue, I can just send them back.

  3. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who's been left feeling this way. I am so fed up with the artificial frenzy whipped up over each new collection, the limiting of stock so that you can't get the products you want unless you go first thing in the morning on the first day they're available in store (or stay up until all hours waiting for it to launch on line). This was the company that made cosmetics fun rather than functional! How can shopping with them have become such a miserable experience with so little payoff (literally and figuratively)? I guess the one thing I can say in their favour is that the products that have always been standbys for me continue to be good, but I just can't be bothered participating in this constant cycle of new product frenzy followed by disappointment in the quality of the product.

    1. Kate, you are saying everything else that I should have said!!! I waited in a virtual line for hours for the RiRi fall items only to find them incredibly chalky, with with terrible payoff and I was so unhappy.

  4. Such an honest post, I haven't purchased anything from MAC well besides the RiRi Woo l/s but I've stopped purchasing mainly because of their animal testing stance in China, I just use what I have had from previous times but I totally agree, they release a lot of collections in the eye of greed more than what MAC use to be known for which was quality.
