Review: Garnier 5 Second Blur Skin Renew Instant Smoother #garnier

DSC09872

How would you like to get rid of pores, fine lines, wrinkles and flaws in 5 seconds flat? Garnier thinks it can be done. Garnier 5 Second Blur Skin Renew Instant Smoother is not so much a miracle worker but a product of modern science. It is a product born of a new generation that is designed to get rid of all of these things and give you beautiful skin. Liken it to a primer. Results from a consumer evaluation study showed that 98% saw smoother skin, 73% saw fine lines reduced, 86% found pores to be less visible, 71% saw flaws minimized and 94% found skin’s overall appearance to be vastly improved. Just take a dime sized amount and apply over entire face. Then apply makeup as usual.

This product claims to have light reflecting technology that erases fine lines and wrinkles. It has a cushiony texture that smoothes over DSC09874the face very easily. Light reflecting particles are supposed to immediately go to work and get rid of any flaws. It is easy to see why this would happen. The first ingredient is dimethicone (a silicone), which is so soft and smooth on the skin and allows for any makeup to have slip and for products to glide on the skin. It also contains another form of dimethicone, dimethicone crosspolymer, which acts to thicken the cream. There is also silica, which is used as an anti-caking agent, an absorbent. It does prevent light reflection though. And the 5 Second Blur Skin Renew Instant Smoother also contains titanium dioxide which does reflect light and actually needs to be coated with silica particles or it creates free radicals and that can be absorbed into the skin.

After looking at the ingredients list and using this product, I am convinced that it really is just a silicone product that is coating the skin for slip. I don’t get any light reflection using this. That does not mean that I don’t like it. I am finding that it works well at creating a nice base for makeup. I don’t mind silicone products. They have been found to be non-comedogenic. I don’t like when companies really tout products that have many characteristics and I find that it really isn’t true.

Garnier 5 Second Blur Skin Renew Instant Smoother does a good job of smoothing out the the fine lines and wrinkles and erasing pores, but that is is pretty much it. And it is definitely due to the dimethicone ingredient. I don’t think the titanium dioxide in it is a viable light reflecting source. Also, this product is very expensive for what you get. It is $16.99 for 1.0 oz./ 30 ml. I purchased another similar product from Maybelline the other day, Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser, that is almost the same thing. So this is my review. I think that maybe the Maybelline product might be a better choice, and I plan on reviewing it too! I purchased it at Walgreens and it will also be available at other mass market retailers very soon. At the time of posting I was not able to find any information on this product at the Garnier website.

Until Next Time ~

    1. Silicones are not really that bad for oily skins. They don't cause acne but it will cause slip. This does mattify the skin a lot.
