There are two new foundations I want to review for you. One is a relaunch and the other is a new product.COVERGIRL decided to relaunch their TruBLEND Liquid Makeup, which has been known to fit all skin tones. Now they purport that it is even better at fitting all skin tones. Rimmel Stay Matte is a liquid mousse foundation that has all day matte wear. I am so happy with both of these foundations because I actually found colors that were light enough for my skin one,. which is a minor miracle for me! I’m going to discuss what is the best and what is my least favorite about each of these foundations.
COVERGIRL TruBLEND Liquid Makeup ($9.99)
Above you can see that COVERGIRL has divided the display of their foundation into 3 parts: light, medium and dark. In each portion of the display there are 7 shades of foundation. This mean that TruBLEND has 21 shades in all (you can see the photo I took of the display below). A fairly large portion of the population should be covered with the amount of shades they have to offer. I am shade l1 Ivory. I always take the lightest shade in a foundation no matter what. Unfortunately, often those shades are not light enough for me. Ivory is though.
The way you are supposed to find your shade is not very clear to me. Here are the instructions: “…features a new shade matching system. To find your perfect blend, first determine your shade family. Second, choose your number. Coordinate complementary truBLEND products based on your number for a seamlessly flawless nude look that blends in and virtually disappears.” I do believe that it is easy enough to see if you are Light, Medium or Dark. However, choosing the perfect shade eludes most people. I know I am lightest. Most people fall into the dark lightest or medium shades. If you are African American or a woman of color, then you will need the darkest shades and it is often very difficult to choose which shade is the best. I think they need to have some sort of system with the display. Transparencies with the shades would be nice. Women have a hard time choosing the right shade, a very hard time. The website has a list of the old shades and will give you a comparison with new shades that they have included. I counted 8 new shades, all in the darker shade spectrum.
The foundation itself is a light to medium coverage. It can be built up to a heavier coverage as needed. It wears well all day over a primer and does not seem to settle into pores, fine lines, etc. COVERGIRL touts that TruBLEND blends into the skin perfectly, which I agree with, it does. I am very happy with the new TruBLEND, as the color is a perfect match for my skin and looks great on! Also available with the display is concealer and their new mattifying TruMAGIC Skin Perfector (kind of like powder but invisible). This stuff is so cool and I love it! It is actually something that Mally Roncal had first and is now making it’s way across the other companies.

Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation ($5.49)
I have never used any of the foundations offered by Rimmel before. But I saw this one and was intrigued that there was a color light enough for my complexion. They list it as a feather light, oil free formula with an airy mousse texture that won’t feel heavy or greasy. It
delivers all day shine control and minimizes the look of pores. Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation blends flawlessly for a natural looking matte finish!

My gripe with this is that is only comes in 8 shades. Not much to choose from for most people. I was shocked that there was a shade light enough for me. It is easy to use too much of this, just a little bit is enough. Seriously, it is a medium to heavy coverage foundation. Much more than I would have expected. I use with my BeautyBlender and poof! It covers very well, goes on matte and it makes the skin look good. I do think I use a little too much of this though. Right now I am testing a product that “blurs” everything and makes a great primer, so that does help but I am convinced this mattifies very well. I have normal skin and do not have any oily breakthrough all day. I assume that if you have oily skin you will have a tiny amount. This will be tested well in the spring and summer! I am very happy with the actual finish it has, very smooth and it doesn’t settle into pores, lines, etc.

So, this is my take on a couple of new choices in the foundation world. If I had to say I liked one more than the other I would say the COVERGIRL, since it is a lighter coverage and is easier to control. The Rimmel is just a little too heavy. I do love foundations though! They set the stage to make the perfect canvas. From there you can take the jump and do anything with your face! For me it is always so hard to find ones that match my skin tone so I am very happy that I have found 2 shades I like!
