Acne is the scourge of many people's existence. I know it is for me. I am 47 years old and I still get it. It is hormonal acne, as it is centered around the chin. I get acne because I use the birth control device known as the Mirena IUD. One of the side effects is acne. I take daily antibiotics to counter the acne in the spring, summer and fall. Usually in the winter it doesn't bother me. Sometimes in the summer i can lay off of them too. It is usually when the seasons change that it is active the most. I went off of my antibiotics so I could show you what happens to my skin and what I do about it.

I have been using the MD Complete Acne System for about two weeks and it has already cleared up my skin. I still have some residual redness but that will go away with time. The system consists of 4 products: Cleanser, Clear, Correct and Nourish.

This cleanser contains 2% salicylic acid to exfoliate the skin along with natural botanicals such as green tea, ginkgo biloba and ginseng to clarify and soothe skin. It effectively washes away the impurities, dirt and makeup that clog pores, leaving skin clean and refreshed. It helps to clear and prevent breakouts, it hydrates and provides antioxidant protection for the skin and it calms and soothes skin. I like the cleanser because of the high salicylic acid content. Even though its not on the skin long it does help. It literally get the breakout ball rolling, getting rid of all of the bacteria and stuff that clog pores. Salicylic acid also kills acne bacteria. Use twice a day.

The second step in the MD Complete system is the Breakout Treatment, which consists of a cream containing 4.5% benzoyl peroxide. The great thing about this is that it is not a very high dose, so you can use it every day or every other day without drying out too much. I have to use it every other day. My skin cannot handle too much benzoyl peroxide. The thing is...it works. It really does help to prevent and eliminate breakouts. Unlike typical benzoyl peroxide formulas that can be irritating, this one leaves you with a complexion that’s smoother, calmer and clearer. This is an innovative full-face benzoyl peroxide treatment. It repairs skin texture while helping skin and helps to restore a healthy looking complexion by strengthening the natural skin barrier. I was surprised at how much I liked this and was able to use it. I was also surprised at how quickly it cleared up my breakouts. Light acne/sensitive skin, use once a day at night. Medium to heavy acne can use this twice a day.

The 3rd step is a retinol and Vitamin C infused treatment that is used after the benzoyl peroxide. It helps even out skin tone and refine texture for healthier looking skin and helps remove red and dark acne marks. Pure retinol refines skin texture and helps to even out skin tone for a healthy complexion. Niacinamide helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and evens out skin tone.
