The latest fragrance from L’Occitane, Grapefruit - Rhubarb (Pamplemousse – Rhubarbe) is a spicy and quivering fragrance. This fragrance is described as a “quivering accord that tantalizes the nose – and the taste buds” and "… citrus fruit clarity merges with Rhubarb sharpness”. When pastry chef Pierre Hermé placed Grapefruit at the heart of this creation, he meant to celebrate all of its facets. This includes the slightly bitter, white inner skin of the grapefruit, with the character underlines by the green and crisp aromas of Rhubarb. What resulted is the beautifully balanced that is not soon ruffled at its heart by sensual piquant spices. Woody notes of Cedar evoke the sensation of mischievous Grapefruit cutting through the tartness of Rhubarb stalks.
Pierre Hermé, the ""Picasso of Pastry"", began his career at the age of 14 working as an apprentice for Gaston Lenôtre, where he excelled in his training. Ten years later his name had spread throughout the world. He revolutionized the most traditionalized world of tastes, sensations and pleasures. In 1997 he founded the company Pierre Hermé Paris with Charles Znaty, establishing himself as the creator of Haute-Pâtisserie. In 2015, his friend Olivier Baussan (the founder of L’Occitane, invited him to compose a collection of scents just the way he wanted. “When I created these fragrances, it all came down to taste.” The results were beautifully crafted and complex fragrances that are living memories of the lands of the Mediterranean and the island of Corsica so loved by both men.
I tried out the 2.5 fl.oz. Eau de Toilette of Grapefruit – Rhubarb. When you first spray this on, you are instantly aware of how light it is. This fragrance is bright, citrusy and full of life. It is a little spicy but that is the cedar note that is at the base of the fragrance. The grapefruit and rhubarb are instantly noticeable and they meld together so nicely. The notes are green, crisp and lively. The base note of cedar leaves a woody dry down that leaves a nice, pleasant aroma. This makes a great gift for anyone who loves fragrances. Especially light, crisp ones. You could even get it for yourself.
